hello

i want to buy a new powerfull 2 stroke engine to use 40-50 size airplanes. such as greatplanes extra 300 and OMP edge540 profile.

i had an o.s 46 fx it is fine on the GP extra but it needs more power.
i also had the 46 fx on the funfly and it's pretty good.

i am also considering buying the seduction freestyle.

what engine do you think will be good?

If you really want a great engine for 3D in the 40 size range go with a Saito 72. Once you go 4 stroke you won't go back.

I am using 2 MVVS 45 with a tuned silencer on a 40 size world model super sport plane and hangar 9 super stick plane. Other friends are using it for World model mustang, T34, super stunt, zen 30.

Our views is that the MVVS 45 is the most powerful compared to OS 46FX and TT46 Pro

With the hangar 9 super stick, and using a 0% nitro fuel with 10% castor oil, I literally fly it at 1/4 of the throttle and at full speed it flies like a pylon plane.

MVVS performs well with a FAI fuel. Do go for more than 10% nitro. Its a high compression and powerful engine.

I have been using it almost every weekends and it still flies until now (after a year of intense use)

The Irvine 50 size engine is a real powerhouse. 53 I think.

very powerful engine, very quick throttle response, no need with more than 5% nitro.
it's a tough engine, and i think that for GP EXTRA 300 rossi it's not a good match beacuase it more suit for fast models.
the webra 50 also very good motor for a fun fly.
in these days i'm installing my webra 40 on sig fazer and morris sudokhoi.

for the seduction freestyle i think that the best engines are 4 stroke beacause these type of planes need a very quick throttle response that 2 stroke engine in these size(40-50) can't give you.
SAITO 72, YS63 or the new OS 70-ULTIMATE will be the best match for it.
in israel it's a problem to find the ys or parts for the saito, i think you should wait to the new os 70 and get one for the seduction.

tooly - parts for saito or for that matter any parts are only an order away, we have landed parts from just engines in the uk in only 4 days.
ps we use rossi's on many fun fliers with great results. most people don't understand the tuning and what prop on the rossi'engines and in terms of longevity the rossi will 5 times outlast the abn webra, but please the webra is still an excellent engine

i don't reject the rossi, but these italian engine are well know in there maximum rpm power.
it's good to know that these also good for fun fly type.
i don't have a exprience with rossi but from what you said i think that it will be my next engine for my new fun fly.
BTW, do you surf in the FLYHI forum?

I hate to dissagree but a Pico 45 weighs in at 13 ounces, puts out 2.25 hp and turns a 12.25X3.75 prop 26,000+ I have it on my OMP Profile Edge and it hangs at a bit less than 1/4 throttle, and no that isnt an exageration either!!!! I wouldnt fly any other 3d plane than the omp edge. It is 3 times the plane as any arf and twice the plane of any kit.

What's a Pico 45. At those rpm numbers, they are more powerful than the Nelson/Jett motors.

rossi rates there hors power higer tan it is.its no an opinion,its a fact.they are no more powerfull than an MVVS.40......

YES, I meant 26000 rpms!!!! Pico was a manufacturing company that made their air engines the way they make car engines. They were very light, had those funky slide carbs like a car engine(my carb looks like it should be on a 90 size 2 stroke and not a .45 and it had a tuned pipe from the factory. They stopped making the air motors in the mid 90's and at the time the .45 cost like 179.00. I picked up two of them NIB for 300.00 off a guy.

Like I said, it will hover my 4 pound profile edge at 1/4 throttle.

I use Wildcat 30% nitro with 18% oil and I added 5-7% castor to it.

It is the oddest sounding engine I have ever heard. It sounds like a dirt bike at idle and just off idol, and when I have the plane at 1/2 or better throttle you cannot hear any of the other planes.

If you choose to say something is a fact, please back it up with a few numbers. On a small prop, they may be close, but the Rossi 53 will out do the MVVS 40 on anything over a 10 inch prop. Call Morris and ask them for yourself. I've owned a Rossi 45 and a 53, and the power is incredible. The MVVS 49 is a close match, but not the 40.

I'd love to hear a 26,000 rpm 45. You should have bought a dozen of them. Why did they stop making it?

well we have a pico 45 and what a nice engine, great quality and the rest but!! 26k never it's only as good as the fx/asp/tt/mag's and sc's we have and thats it.

now for the rossi's, the king of sport engines and those of you who have and can tune them to their max will know and also your flying friends a the field because they all see and hear that this engine is a true spinner, on low nitro the italian stallion kicks best, idles and starts like a baby with much better than good transition, now the quality and long levity is also better than most so that leaves the weight, yes a little heavier than the 46 clan but then this is not apples with apples. this leaves the irvine and few others still no match really only the jet's and nelson's can beat this engine, test it for yourself one day and see. best

I made an ops, the 26000 isnt on a 12 x 4, but a much smaller 9 x 4 prop. I wrongly thought the advertised prop they suggest and the top rpm they claim was with the two together.

The guy I got them from only had 2.

I am gonna check it with the 12 x 4 and see what it gets with that myself.

I asked Debbie, some tima ago, at Morris was the MVVS 49 as strong as the Rossi 53. Her response was "pretty close".

I have heard real good things about the Jett engines, but no numbers with fun fly type of props. Most Jett engines are timed for smaller props.
