Whoops, forgot to comment on the charger. The BPP SC2 sounds like the perfect charger for you, as it is only $60 and can charge multiple packs.

However, they are very hard to get, the backorder list is really long. They have a few other chargers there, but the SC2 and Triton are the best.

Just a question for all who have built one of these awsome planes... Has anyone tried one of those recievers with the built in 30 amp ESC in one? Would it save weight? Are they reliable? Thanks for any advice on the matter.

I only recommend the Berg 5 channel receivers or the Hitec Electron 6. The one you are talking about is probably heavy, and only single conversion so it would have terrible range, and not be able to fly at crowded fields. It was a good idea, but they did it sub-par. Plus, this way you can switch to a brushless motor (eventually) without having to buy a new receiver.

I plan on using an MPI MX-6800 Pico Receiver (Single Conversion - 1,000' Range)...But then again, I plan on doing almost all my flying in my backyard, too!

For those of you using the LiPo batteries, are you using 2 cell or 3 cell? How about (2) 3 cell pack in parallel? Let me know what configuration you are using. Av8er Tim said he was using the 3 cell pack and getting 28 minutes flight time.

I'm using E-Tec 2-Cell 1200mah LiPo's, and they work great on the 3dx! There is plenty of power to pull out of hovers, or anything else that you might want to try. However, if you want to blast out of a hover like a rocket ship, the 3-Cell LiPo's would be the better choice! I've never timed my flights...but I know they are easily good for over 20 minute flights!

I'll take a few of the questions, as Tim says he has been pretty busy lately. The background music is Posthumus Nara.

Using 3 cells delivers amazing performance, but will shorten motor life by a lot, unless if you are using a brushless motor.

Many single conversion receivers actually do have good range. However, if you get them into a bad environment (Ex.: in front of your house above those big green transformer boxes, at a busy flying field, near a factory or place that uses arc welders, etc) and they will do terrible. I had (have, but never use now) a GWS R4P that would glitch terrible wherever I flew, if I went high enough or flew over weird stuff. A plane of this size can handle the extra weight just fine.

SKYPYRO - you are talking about using a single 3 cell pack (all three cells in series 10.8 volts) not using two 3 cell packs in parallel to handle the added amp draw?

I too am using the RZ350 with the 3-cell 1200mah pack. Vertical climb is awesome and will go out of sight if you want it to. There is no need for more power believe me. I fly 20 minute flights and use between 1100-1150 mah per flight.

Yes, single conversion receivers are fine as long as you are not in a "high interferance" atmosphere. As a matter of fact, the Berg rec. are single conversion and are some of the best out there. My advice is don't skimp just to save a few bucks. Get the best lightweight rec. you can.

Matt3D - yes, it will do an inverted flat spin. It will do a climbing inverted flat spin too.

It doesn't matter if the packs are paralleled or not, the voltage of 3 cells will fry the motor. Paralleling a battery pack is done to increase capacity, thus increasing the amount of current it can safely supply. For instance, using a 3s1p pack of Kokam 1020s (3 batteries in series, none in parallel) can only safely supply 3-4 amps without damaging your batteries. However, making a 3s2p pack (3 in series, two in parallel) will increase the capacity of the total pack to 2040, and will allow it to give out 6-8 amps without damage being done to the battery. You could put 100 packs in parallel, and it wouldn't damage the motor any more than just one. However, if you make a pack with 4 in series, you can expect you motor to last about 5 very spirited minutes before it goes dead. Skypyro, Ive been using 3s etech1200s for along time on my gws 300 c d-drive 13-65 prop. and initially I had a problem with motor life. But since I backed off the timing to 0 degrees it lasts fine now. It will hover nonstop 5-6 minutes or just fly around for at least 40 minutes
