Hey, your pic gives me an idea for something cool. I'll post a pic if I do it or tell you what if I don't. Glad to hear you are doing good with that battery.

Dan - The E-Tec 1200 Lipos are good up to 12 amp bursts (10c) and work fine at around 6-8c Run time is a bit reduced at the higher amp draws, but 90% of the 3D type flying done with these small airframes is well below 8c on the E-Tecs. I have not had a problem with motor life with the 3s E-Tecs with a stock timed motor (re-timed, yes, they draw too many amps). Actually, the motors last longer than on my Slow Stick with 8 HE cells. The Kokam Lipos cannot handle the amp draws that the E-Tecs can. If you want even more amp capacity, the Thunder Power Lipos are beyond the E-Tecs.

With the ET lipos, a stock motor, 12x6 prop, "D" gearing I can get over 20 min flights and the pack and motor are quite warm, but nowhere near the temp of my NiMh packs (and that is during 90-100 degree outside air temps)

Now, I'm not saying it's not pushing the motor, it is. Motor life varies considerably. Remember these are probably 50-75 cent (wholesale) motors. They are built in huge quantities and quality is not job one... I've had stock motors burn up in 2 flights, and I've had stock motors last over 100 flights. It's the luck of the draw with these Mabuchi motors.

Brushless is the way to go, but the stock combo is still a potent power choice.

Fan fold

Does anyone know if Green Guard 1/4" fan fold will work? This is what the local lumber yard has. It has a perforated surface. Thanks for the help. Tom

That stuff is pretty heavy. I'd try to find the blue fan fold. If you can't find that, I'd get some 6mm Depron from www.depronusa.com

I am planning on building one of these, How did you do the colors on that Yak? That looks awesome. This may take a while because I want all of the 'spensive stuff :D . I want the brushless and Lipos which make this an expensive little foamy.

Geez PI- where are you? Never seen grass that green here :D Nice nice pic, too. These things are great! Looks like you are having fun with em, too. We gotta get together some time. I think I have told you about the Chandler Bowl, right?

Dan

PS: I noticed a few other guys here are RCGroups members. Are you having trouble getting on right now? I think Ezonemag and RCGroups are down (makes sense, I think they are off the same server.)

Post got deleted, long story short, by accident. Here is the link for how to get to the Chandler Bowl, and the rules of regulations there.

Tim- as always, another great production! You have really improved as a pilot since those first couple of videos. Especially with that "constant Kansas wind."

Geez, it is almost impossible to find your old threads now. I really wish they would have kept it the same, but it's too late now. Dang. So, did anyone else survive the switch?

Edit: ok, this was just an off topic rant. Anyways, are any other 3DX flyers in the Gilbert area? I would love to fly with you sometime.

Hi Guys/gals, Just cut my 3dx out of foamcore board.( paper covered foam) After I peeled off the paper, my thickness was just under 5 mills so I decided to cover all sides with solarfilm light. It is a low temp very light iron on covering that makes the foam very strong without adding very much weight. ( .6 oz. per square yard!!) Results have been excellent. It comes in tons of colours and applies at 80 to 100 degrees. I will post some pics as I finnish. Thanks to the 3d ghuru for the plans. MAD out.

Mark, I know I replied to this once before but it disappeared. Plane was painted with PlastiKote from the autoparts store.

Anyone tried the MPJet 25/35-20 on the 3DX yet? Seems an incredible deal at $50 for the motor, which includes a 4:1 gearbox. $125 with a Phoenix25 ESC from http://www.mountainmodels.com The hobby lobby website http://www.hobby-lobby.com/brushless_mpjet.htm claims 26oz of thrust with 8 cells and a 10x6. Seems a good fit for teh 3DX, no?

Hey, this stuff looks neat! I'm going to have to try one of those.

So get the blue stuff? Not the pink stuff?? 'Cause the blue is lighter???
