Thinking of buying myself one for christmas and putting a 26cc RCGF engine. How is the build quality of the plane? How about flying, hovers, flat spins, etc?
Do yourself a favor and put a DLE30 or Syssa 30 in it, you won't be sorry if you wanna do any hovering or 3D. This is a nice little plane; I haven't built one but have flown one with a DLE30; that hauls it around well. Most of the 26cc gassers don't have the power to hover a 10lb plane with any authority. I also flew another club member's H9 Funtana 125 with a CRRC 26, and it had no pullout whatsoever from hover. He switched to a DLE30 and was delighted!

So you've flown the 260 then

Yes, it belonged to a friend from another club. It wasn't set up/optimized for 3D, and I was helping him set throws, etc. The one I flew had a DLE30 with a Master Airscrew 20x6, and was a bit nose-heavy. Despite that, I was able to hover it a bit, and I think with a better prop (19x8 Xoar, maybe) and some tweaks, it would be a great little plane. Not as nice as a 71" Slick or Aeroworks Extra or Edge in that size, but $150 cheaper too! Abell is the closest thing I have to a LHS; they are a good outfit. I wouldn't hesitate to try one out...

As cowboy says, go with the DLE30. It pulls my Funtana 125 out of a hover faster than most sport planes go down the runway on take off. The Funtana weighs in right at 10.5 lbs. The DLE is a monster with very mild manners and uses very little of an already inexpensive fuel.

Many guys at my field haven't been too happy with DLE engines and switched over to RCGF engines.  What do you guys think?  If i went RCGF it would be either 26 or 32cc compared to the DLE 30cc.  This will be my first gas engine so i don't have much knowledge on them besides the info from the guys at the field.

Are you using the rear carb DLE30 in your setup? How'd you modify the firewall for the carb body? Can you post pics? I've got a 70" Extra260 with a short firewall to cowling nose. I'm thinking of replacing the MLD28 (with side carb)with the DLE30 (rear carb).

thanks
