:)Rob Clement RC...
Yeah, the Maxair Velox is a nice airplane. I'm more than half way done with it. There is a build thread going on right now. So far I'm very impressed with it. I have a Saito 125 to try in it. It'll give me a good basis to try it against the YS110. Also, this plane looks to me like it'll be a good flyer. Anyways, Thanks Barry |

I was just looking at the picture of your "fly in". Looks like things are really beginning to get crowded down there. I hope you don't run out of runway and pit area. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Guy's... Congrads Barry!! Gary looks like you had a fun day..
Rain... We need some here... We'll give you all this wind we have been having.. Well my "Do" wing should be here today along with my SPAD parts... Hope to have both ready for this weekend(Club funfly)...Hope, But I'm slow...???? So I may just be flying my profile.. Maybe the Avistar... And, Ohh NO the wing is not the post office replacement.... That's STILL in Post Office heaven somewhere.... But even tho St. Louis status shows unable to find my receipt #... My local claims person(She knows me now by my voice recognition) says they have it, but they are Very slow, but all is going smoothly:-(..... My first trainee soloed on the 17th:-)))) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I'm about 75% done with the Maxair. So far I'm pretty impressed with the build. Everything is going good. I've decided to mount the Saito sideways in it. Plenty of room. And I think this will avoid any possible "flooding" problems like on the big UCD. I'll off set the battery to compensate for that huge cylinder sticking out the side. The Funtana had a sideways mount and it seemed to balance ok. Our weather is showing a glimmer of hope. By Saturday our high will be in the low 40s. Might even rain a bit. That helps take the snow. I'm hoping for the middle of March for the first flights. That's about typical. The field is looking pretty good. I'm pulling all my planes out and giving them the "look over" and getting them ready for the flying season. I do pretty good on maintenance but if there is much of anything major I avoid doing it in the flying season. I'd rather fly all I can. Fix in the winter. Both my UCDs are all ready to go. Been a few months since I flew so I'll probablty start with the Ultra Stick unless I can talk a club memeber into letting me fly his jet. That would get the fingers limber for the Velox. Well, good day all. thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks everyone for the additional info -
I got the engine mounted up on the stock mount simply by going to the LHS and finding a bolt without a hex head on it, but a flat head instead. I now have about 1mm between the heads of each bolt when everything is fastened down. I finished all the remaing steps of the build. I had kinda skipped around a little bit where I could since I was missing a few details and items here and there, but it's 98% done now. All I have left is mounting up the GP fuel filling kit I bought and drilling one last hole on the cowling. I need to update my pictures, but here's what most of it looks like: http://www.waynelansdowne.com/galler...lbum=21&page=2 Saturday morning will be spent breaking in the engine at the field - not flying, but on a stand. Maiden will be either late that afternoon or Sunday morning. I'll report back with how everything goes! - Wayne |

Those pictures really look nice. Always a good idea to take pictures BEFORE you maiden a plane. At least if you want to remember what it looks like. Your build looks great. Good luck with your maiden flights. I look forward to hearing how you like the plane. Thanks Barry |

Rob Clement - RC or anyone for that matter. Where do you get the inserts for carbon fiber control rods and are they expensive?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I'd use carbon fiber rods but I can't bring myself to trust the plane to glue joints, wonder if there is a way to glue and add some other method of locking/pinning them for a guaranteed joint? Going out tomarrow and try the extra throw on spoilerons for harriers. It worked for the 60,hope it works on the .46 as I find it too touchy for my liking.

Ever time you start a plane your trusting your hand to alot weaker glue joint. Carbon rods and JB weld don't fail if done right, ive got them on stuff up to 25% and beat on them. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)mixmaster...
I use carbon fiber rods with the titanium rod ends a lot. I use 30 minute epoxy to glue them in. So far I haven't had a singel problem. Knock on wood. But, it's the last thing I worry about. The glue joint will hold longer than the control horn or almost anything else. I wouldn't give it a 2nd thought, I don't . Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Prop, thanks for the link. I called Central Hobbies and ordered some carbon fiber materials. The links and ball clevises are pricey, too, but justified over the long haul--I'm hoping. I NEVER want to worry about a silicone rubber tubing to secure my clevises. I just replaced ANOTHER today. The cost can be written off if you can use the clevises in later birds. If you go through several Can Dos, the linkages can be used over and over. That makes the cost worth it.
From what the guy said, the carbon fiber rods will survive a nose in balsa plant at 40 mph. He wasn't sure about 50 mph--MY usual speed going in. J |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Fly the jet Barry, i would like to see the video:D
i mounted my 125 horizontal on my 60size and expected to have a big change in the lateral balance but when i lifted off i had to return the 2-3 clicks of left trim i put in to compensate back to where i had it and never even noticed it again, flys the same, but what do i know, i just fly by my bootstraps anyways[X(] mixmaster, i also use the central hobbies carbon fiber rods with their titanium ends also with jb weld on all my planes and never had a failure in a year and a half, trust them, they are worthy;) nice wayne, looks great, the only thing i would do different is throw those wood cowl mount blocks away and just mount the cowl screws right into the side of the fuse where the firewall is about 1/6 in back and the screws will go right into the triangle stock that supports the firewall, done both my ucd this way and saves you a little weight, (and is easier);) |

I got to go and fly yesterday and had a great time of it. Man that was fun. [8D] But I forgot to bid on an aluminum spinner on Ebay and the auction ended before I could get back to it. Plus the seller happened to live in the same town as me and emailed and said I could pick it up and save the shipping cost and even had some fuel that he said I could have for free. Doesn't matter. You were flying. That should take some of the sting out of it. Ask him if you can still have the fuel..... Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
That's a good idea. I think I'll do that.
Hey, I wanted to ask you Barry. Do you think the new OS 120 AX would fly the Mayhem okay? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Rob Clement RC...
I don't have personal experience with that engine. But people who I trust have made many comments on it in the forums. No doubt it is a powerhouse and would be an excellent choice for the Mayhem. I perfer 4 strokes but there is no doubt in my mind the OS would work fine. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks Barry. I don't know if I'll go to a 2 stroke for it or not. Just a thought. I really would rather have a 4. [8D]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hi Guy's... Looks like the thread is still going strong!!
Started "slowly" putting the "Do" together:)).. It should be fun.. My SPAD is just about complete, just in time for our clubs pylon race.. On another note My V2 profile hit the deck again..... My YS loaded up and did not clear fast enough to recover from my low harrier:(.. Damage was light at the L.G. mount... I was slowly leaning the low end on each flight(5).. But as I do sometimes:( on the last 3, 1/8 adjustments.. #&*(^ I turned it the wrong way:((... Wish I would have thought about that before I got so upset that I picked up a S-82.... Well that left me with the Avistar to fly in our club fun fly... We had just three events.. target landing, 3min. flt. and the limbo..... My Avistar did pretty good, It lucked out and came in first and got $50:))) |

I just use a plain ol' prop hub. They work great and I've gotten used to the looks of them. I use them on all my planes. Makes life easy. Here's a picture. Thanks Barry |

Thanks Barry. That's what I have on there now but I had to order one for my new Funtana so I just thought I'd check. I looks like there is a washer behind the nut. Is there? In the second picture, it sure looks clean. [X(] Man! What a nice plane. No snow on it though.....[:-] Here's the one I have. Kind of boring looking......[&o]
