RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Rob Clement RC...
I like the Higley hubs. I'm not sure they look the best but they are lighter than any spinner and they work very well. I've grown used to the way they look. I have them on all my planes. It's funny how much of a rut I get in. I use the same engines, servos, hubs, receivers, channels, decals, props, tires, hinges, linkages, etc time and time again. I find something I like and I stay with it. I love Chevys...That's why I have a Nissan. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
No, not a rut. Just something that works. If it works why change it? I love Chevys too, that's why I drive a Dodge.....
How's the Mayhem coming? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Rob Clement RC...
Just getting started, barely, on the little Mayhem. But I weighed everything. (Details in the ARF forum). This baby is gonna be LIGHT. I estimate 4lbs 12ozs. And that will be realistic. One guy in that forum has his at 5lbs 1ozs and he's using a 91 engine. That's one full pound lighter than the UCD. It should fly real nice. Thanks Barry |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
ORIGINAL: gjeffers Barry, im using the stock ucd 60 tank with the 125 and it gives me 12 min easy flying time, i have it all leaned down now so if your breaking it in on the plane a little rich just keep her down to 7-8 min till you see what it is using;) Jack |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Nice Blazer. 77? Well I had my first crash with the new UCD. I was assembling the wing getting ready to balance it in my kitchen, and the top spare broke right behind the cocpit. It was laying upside down on my leg when I was screwing in the wing. That makes me so mad. This was on of the best looking arfs I have put together so far out of 4, no glue running down the wings, pen marks on the stabs, you know the normal. And I do something dumb like this. I have some popsicle sticks I am going to double and epoxy in in its place and will recover. Should not be able to tell I did anything when I am done. Still ticks me off though.
After repairs, and on the scale, I am at 6.5 pounds. Thats with Saito 82, 3305 servos on the wings, 3310 on rudder, and 3004's on elevator. I also painted the windscreen, and used a GP fueler. Is this heavy for a UCD 46? Thanks |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hi Jack, no i havent found a V-stack for the 125 yet, i have one on my 100 also and had similar results as you. if you find out about one for the 125 let me know.i dont think they have one yet, i would try the one on my 100 but ive been to busy and and it really hasnt made it into my list of top 10's yet:D
thanks Crash, it a 76 and i have a lot of money en it for off roadin,(none for looks) livin where i do ive been an avid off roader fo about 30 years but they(the BLM) have just about ran everyone into off road parks out here protecting me from my desert:Dso i fooled them and started burning nitro[8D] |

:)gjeffiers...
That is a nice Chey. And nice looking UCD. I like to ride dirt bikes and the protectionists are getting to me also. I just hate it. Crash... Yes, I think your UCD is a little heavy. The GP fueler adds a bit of weight and weight just materializes from nowhere. Mine weighs 5lbs 12ozs with the 82. I have to keep mine as light as possible and burn 30% just to have a chance at my elevation. If you are low...you'll be fine. Mine, an ounce or two really makes a difference. thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I am 650 feet. I even used CA instead of epoxy everywhere I could. Its going to be 70 today, but the winds are going to be gusting at 60mph.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Wow! It looks great! Nice and shiny......[8D] I'm not familiar with the FX 91. Did you beef up the landing gear block?
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
bh307,
You might want to get that CG back further.... it will fly much better assuming your ready since it's #3. I looked at GP and Tower for the little insert that came with mine, I think it says you can go back to 6"? Mac |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
yes I did beef up the landing gear with metal pins that was the first thing I did . I put it half way on the CG should be 4"-6" May last on was on 53/4 so on the first flight with the bigger motor I am going to start at 5"
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
5 will be a good starting point, you can change it from there, nothing hurt. will fly great!
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
One fellow at my club put a 91fx in his. He mostly just hovered it at just under 1/4 throttle. It was prone to breaking in the middle, except he flew it hard and it flew well. I almost bought it off of him, but another club member had one that had not been repaired.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
does an 82 drop into the same mount as a 72 without any mods or re-drilling?
Mac |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
The MacDaddy In answer to the question about Saito 82. Yes,72 & 82 are the same externally.
bh307 That sure is pretty. Wow thew 46 UCD ought to scream with os fx 91. We have a couple of them in 60 size UCDs and they preform great. Doug |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)The 82 is the exact same fit as the 72 and requires no extra effort to mount. The only extra effort required is to restrain yourself with the extra power it makes. (20%)
Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks for all the kind words guys!
I ruined my muffler manifold doing something stupid (don't ask), so I won't be flying until a few parts arrive from Horizon. Otherwise, I'm on call this weekend and have to work anyway - winds are in the 20's this weekend, so no big loss. I'll be out of town next week for four days, but I should be back in the air after that. Repairing the covering and doing some ad-hoc balsa reinforcement / repair was a good learning experience. I'm LOVIN' the flights I've done so far... I can absolutely see more of these planes in the future if the occasion arises. I'm going to take the advice and pick up a 15x4 APC or similar as suggested. For those posts concerned about the .82 - DO IT!! The .91 Saito I have in there has been a blast.. you just need to be sensible with the throttle inputs. Thanks to everyone, Wayne |

38, I have the UCD 46 for Aeroflight pro but it doesn't fly like the original either. The tail is shaped weird too and looks off.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey guys. I got my instructor card yesterday. I passed my instructor test and even took a student up, all in the same day. Yikes! Here's how it went. I met with my former instructor at the field yesterday and asked him a few times about getting my instructor card. Well it was kind of busy down there with some people bringing new planes to check out so it was going to be a while before he could get to me. Anyway later in the day the instructor gave me the flight test and we filled out the paper work. By that time it was getting late in the day and I figured I would get in another flight or two. Next thing I know a young guy comes up to us and says "is there an instructor here?" The instructor that signed me off looks at me and says "he is." So I had my first student. [X(] It took some time to check out his plane and straighten things out but I got him out flying and he did pretty good. He's been flying on the sim and I only had to save him a couple of times. The light was fading though so I landed the plane and brought it in. All in all it went pretty good and he thanked me a several times. Hey! I just realized, he didn't bring any doughnuts. [>:] Hmmmm..... I'm going to have to put a sign up at the field or something.

That's cool you're an instructor! Way to go. Pass it on. That's great. I don't think we have instructors in our club. Not that many of us really and whoever can always helps with the Newbies. We have a couple of guys who really like to help and then of course most want to steer away from me. I'm mostly a 3D guy and when they see me fly they want no part of my stuff. They are afraid I won't ever get their plane under control. Never really thought about it. Maybe I'd like to help where I can. If I attended the club meetings I'd ask. Maybe I'll send a note. Thanks Barry |
