got a few flights on my ucd now flies great..tried a zinger 11x6 & 11x6 these props didnt perform as well as the apc 11x5 on my evolution 46 what make props are best for these sizes? also was noticing on the ailerons both ailerons are straight and level at the wing tips but near the fusealage one is higher than the other is this normal ?if not how should i correct this?i also found some aluminum tubes for linkage stiffend it up great very light slipped right over the originals 1.50 a piece woked great looks cool and strong...thank you....

xxsnookxx... I use a APC 12.25X3.75 on my OS 46... For me it's a good prop. Your
evo should spin it good also... APC's are a bit heavy, But they are about the best prop
that you can get for the $$$$.. I've used Pro Zingers mostly 14X4W.. But they are a bit
inefficient...The other wood props are a lot better at pushing air... Your 46 will fly the "Do"
But to do all that the "Do" will do you will want a bit more power... Most including myself
use the Saito 82, I also had a YS 63 and a Saito 100 on the "Do"... I tried the S-100 after
a "power demon" loved it on his "Do"... The "Do" handles the 100 good..... You do have
to control that left stick... This plane does not like a lot of speed...
Your ail. should be OK depending how far they are off.. Sometimes laying the ail. on a
level flat table etc. and holding it flat against the table and heating the covering with an
iron/ heat gun will help to strighten it.. Or have someone lightly twist the high part of your
ail and again heating it, holding it till it cools will help strighten it.. The control rods are a
bit light for this plane, I used 4/40 rods, a few went with the carbon fiber... And sounds
like you came up with another idea...

Sounds like a pretty good idea putting aluminum tube over the stock 2-56 stuff. I used carbon fiber rod on mine and it works great.
Try the 12.25x3.75 prop on your Evo.

Hey all, I had to back off from airplane stuff this weekend. My wife said that I was spending too much time in the garage, flying planes, and too much time on the web. Can you imagine that? [X(] She mellowed out today though. Wheeeoouuu..... Scared for a bit there.
Well I'm going to re-maiden the Mayhem tomorrow. I put in a new RX and it's good to go. Can't wait. Gotta fly the Do too.

Yeah...I have a DA50 for some reason. With the DA50 the UCD Giant would weight 14lbs. That is what my CAP 27% weights with the EVO45. If the CAP is good at 14lbs with a gas engine...why wouldn't the Giant be? I'm gonna get the CAP up first and get the grmlins sorted out on the gas engines before I do anything. But if I like the CAP I think I will try the DA50 on the Giant. I love the way the Giant flys, just need more power.

Well I am majorly bummed out, depressed and almost speechless. I went to the flying field today and found out that our field has been shut down untill August 1st and maybe forever. Apparently what happened was that one of the guys that was flying last Thursday lost control of his plane and it sailed out of our flying area and crashed into some trees on an ajacent neighbors land. As the story goes, he went over to get his plane and got into a confrontation with the neighbor and she threatened to call the police. (that is her side of the story anyway) She then called the ranger of the park where we fly and complained to him about. He shut down our field pending investigation of the incident and the neighbor lady also called the regional office for the parks dept. and complained so at this point we're not sure if the park will still let us fly there any more. ARRRGGGHHHHH!!! I don't know where I can fly now. Land is at a premium around here. It's just not that easy to find any place to fly around here.

That is just awful! Poor neighbors I'd say. They get all that free entertainment and the complain with the occasional mishap. Bummer.

I hope you get it worked out. I also hope your nearest flying field isn't Idaho.

Yes, I guess there's been a problem with those neighbors for quite a while. It would be a shame to get it shut down from the actions of one guy and I would think that the district parks dept. would have sense enough to see that.
I didn't even get to re-maiden the Mayhem. I did get to start it up on Sunday evening to adjust the throttle linkage and man o' man! That 125 runs a sewing machine. It just purrs right along. Very nice. [8D]

Now that really put's a frown on my brow! I could see it going to that point if a pet or heaven forbid a resident was injured or nearly injured even, but a lousy mess in a tree! People can be the most awful things! Now, I am having to base this on the assumption that the guy wasn't upset about the loss of the plane and "spilled" over on the residents. Some people can turn anything into a confrontation. Still, this seems to be sign of the times. If a guy or a group of guys (and a few gals I guess) is having a good time, then somebody is going to have some sort of problem with it.

I am a licensed HAM radio operator and the same thing is happening to that hobby. Neighborhood associations that wont let you put up antennas. Unwanted "key ups" from people to screw with you while you are having a legitimate conversation with someone. Frequencies that are being constantly "auction blocked" for use in the new wireless world, interference in HAM bands, especially VOIP, (voice over internet) and the fact that a lot of HAMs that were radio men in the military are dropping off like flies. Children aren't interested in it and are no longer being recruited anyway. It's a dying hobby.

Even the government is looking to shut down some things if they have their way. Model rockets, chemistry sets and other such hobbies are at great risk of being rendered un-American. Very tight controls on the industries and the fear of people using them for harm.

I think I'd better stop this at that, and my apologies to being so off topic here. However, I hated so to hear that such a small thing could end up so sour, since I assume that your feild is sanctioned and all are AMA carrying flyers, right? If so, they're covered as far as liability arent they? What's the big issue? I don't see why they would have the right to "ground" your field? Your whole group is being treated like criminals. I can just picture a bunch of guys with airplanes and transmitters in their hands while armed troopers blockade them from entering!

We should all go flying ASAP in honor of your "R/C Ruby Ridge!!" [:@] (OK, so that was out of line a bit) But seriously folks, the way things are going, we should enjoy and appreciate every day we spend at the airfield, smelling that castor and synthetic oil and nitro-methane burning as the growl of the motors pull these miracles of balsa and plastic film through the sky!! It's in our blood! We must fly! I'm sure you'll be back flying at your site. I just don't ee how they could keep you from doing your thig as long as all the T's ar crossed and I's dotted. Good luck. I'll be thiking about you as I jump the fence in my back yard and enter the most beautful, green mowed grassy field and fly to my hearts content! You never know, some day they could say that all R/C planes are outlawed! Give 'em Hell Harry! Sometimes we have to fight to keep our toys! There is just too much joy to be derived in this hobby.

Rob.. Sorry about your flying field's situation... Neighbors/people have been a problem
for this hobby... Most are good... But there is always the slight few that will never like
our hobby.. They have shutdown a few fields in the past from what I've heard... Hope
all will turn out good!!
Our field is on borrowed time...( 5 mins away for me [:o] )
A home developer is letting us use his land for free plus he helped us get the paved
runway for free, And also lets us use a Moble home for our club house... It's a Great
Deal... Our problem is, it's the last section of land he has to develope.. So we're hoping
atleast 3-5yrs before he can get all the permits(it's a bit slow here, plus getting water
rights gives us a bit of time) to start building.. The owner said we should be OK for 5yrs
+ because he plans to build the first 75 homes on the far end of the his property, which
would be plenty of room to still have the field and AMA flying area..... But you know
what happens once homes get close.... About three months ago he wanted to start
moving dirt only while waiting for permits for piping etc... But he ran into a snag, He was
going to use the dirt road we use to the field as a main roadway, But the State did not
like that.. Plus he's having problems with water rights... That can be tough here...
So we have been looking for a replacement field.... But it's tough.... Don't think we
will find a deal like this again.... Sorry for my rambling.... But your problems started me
thinking of ours.... Hope all turns out good for you and your Club!!

Got to quit drinking,I'm seeing double-double. They all look nicer than my current one,pants,spinners,painted canopy,but hey,the way mine looks,I dont worry about getting DOD. I remember the day (over 15 yrs ago)I went to my first field only to read a notice that shut us down. New homes were mostly to blame and just one PIA resident who went to town meetings and blasted us.It was during the first gulf war and the local paper had an article on the front page about the dangers of RC,the war was on page 2! This is what just one PIA homeowner can do. Land in NJ is fading fast,building everywhere,more clubs are losing their sites all the time. Electrics may be the only RC planes in the future.

:)It is just a sign of the times. Minorities rule or get ruled. I've never figured that out exactly. But it seems that's just the way it is.

It will be a sad day if all planes must be electric. That will be the day I quit, if I even make it that long. Here in Idaho we still have quite a bit of land available and people seem to be more tolerate to these things. Some even have shooting ranges in their back yards. But, bit by bit we are getting "modern" technology. We aren't far off from you guys. Sad indeed.

Great pictures. I love a good Do. I flew my 60 yesterday during a long lunch. Weather was perfect and so was the plane. For some reason my UCD is getting even better with age. I was doing the most amazing rising flat spins. With ease. I start way up high and just do a very slow (engine idling) very flat, slow decending flat spin to about 20' above the ground. Then I'd bark the throttle on the mighty 110 and snap it around into a pinwheel and stay right there for a few seconds than add a bit more down elevator and begin a rising flat spin up to a hundred feet or so and than "Do" it again. Wow! What fun! And I don't have another plane that will even come close to that. Even my 46 won't go all the way back up. Amazing. Truly these are some of the best flying airplanes out there. All right...they don't KE that good and Harriers are harder, but hey....If you want to "Blend In" there just isn't a better plane.

I also did some great hovers. Even thought about a tail touch...then I remembered the Mayhem 40...Kept it about 15' above the ground. Low enough for me. Low enough for anybody...except Gjeffers.

Glad you like the pictures! I knew I had to post them here when I found them. I wasn't going to be too surprised to hear someone say that they were already posted here somewhere. Oh well, I figured if so, that they would be new to someone. Glad you like 'em.

Finally decided to go in a fiddle with my RCU settings and made a cool avatar. I was down with the weather here (I have chronic pain and go down with the barometer, not to worry too much though, I have an implanted pain med pump, most of the time I'm fit as a fiddle and no one knows) and didn't feel up to working on any planes. I'm glad I did, I know now how to do more stuff here!

Since my second Do has a forward CG, it doesn't flat spin very well,I would like to try rising flat spin but not in the inventory now. However,inverted it seems to hang in there better,I cant even get it to harrier inverted as it will flip back over even with the throttle at idle and lower throws?! I've only seen one person do that the whole 20yrs I've been flying.(the rising flat spin that is)
I'm spending all my energy(and $$$ for fuel) trying for that Holy Grail of 3-D-the hovering T/R tail touch-I got down to 2 ft. a couple times but something keeps me from going lower,I lack testicular fortitude maybe!

Thanks for all the response guys. We have a meeting with the parks dept. tonight. I don't know if that will help much other to get more info out to everyone about what happened and hopefully to let everyone know that our rules are not to broken. I hope it isn't too late. I was having such good times with the Do lately and within an inch of re-maidening the Mayhem. I need your prayers.

OK guys I just discovered this thread and I am very interested in gettinga a UCD .46. I have to ask you anyway. The budget right now will only buy the plane! Since I happen to have a TT .46 and JR equipmet to fit it with standard servos.

Here is the question: Is this plane going to be worthy with this plant and equipment? or should I look in other direction!

Well, in this thread, of course we'll tell you to get the U-Can-Do and fly it with what you got until you got that Saito 82A!! Honestly, it's a little underpowered with that Thunder Tiger, but then maybe two hundred dollars will fall out of the sky and you'll buy that four stroke!

Read the reviews section in the blue box at your 10 oclock and perouse this thread for the advice and proclaimations here. There is no shortage of assistance around here! Just ask.

a local club in half moon bay CA was shut down property owner in the area complained ,well at the city council meeting there was such a pro field response that they re opened the strip sometimes jumping through the proper hoops gets results . explaining that its model airplanes not kegger parties and its a positive youth and adult activity worked well good luck

cjposada, I flew mine for 3 seasons with a Saito 65 turning an APC 13x4W prop for power, futaba 3004 servos on the elevator and ailerons, and a high torque Hobbico servo on the rudder all of which I ran on 6 volt. I'm not going to tell you that the 65 provided the same power as the 82 will but the plane was an absolute joy to fly. It won't have unlimited 3D ability with the 46 2 stroker but I think you could power this thing with a rubber band and still find something good to say about it.:):)

this is the U-CAN-DO thread I also am running with rtn's servo set up although at 4.8V I have a 1500 mah batt also have a OS 61 2s for power with a 13-4 prop the plane does any thing you want pretty much 2/3 throttle is all the 46 is great but you will find the vert. is lacking aqlthough it will fly great with that power plant

Thanks Bigtim. I need the encouragement. I went to the meeting with the parks dept. last night. It was informational but I found that some of the inherent problems with flying on state land cannot be solved so easily. Someone brought up the idea of requiring flyers to be AMA members and the ranger said that since it's on state land and open to the public we cannot require the public to have insurance. ??? So there you have a situation that cause the state to be responsible for the public and we can't make changes to protect our club. ARRGGGHHHH!!!! There are other things too that came up that would be better at protecting the club and the flyers and it doesn't sound like the state would make the changes to make them happen. To me it kind of sounds like we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. I think I'm going to sign up at a club down the highway a ways and fly there.
