When I drilled through the motor mount, the nuts weren't supported the same way around the nut, caused by the chamfer on the bottom of the mount. Allowed the bolt to bend when tightened. I tapped mine on the next mount for 6-32. Works fine, stays tight, better than a bolt and nut.

Stop just short of running the tap all the way thru and you have a built in lock nut.

Ok, does anyone know where i can get a 6-32 tap and drill set in the uk, or is there a uk conversion for it?? Thanks.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I just pulled the UCD .46 from the box. I will be using a OS.50 w/Macs pipe and 11 X 6 Apc prop, 6volt 600 mAh reciever batt pack, and JR 537 servos. The .50 pulled the Twist clear out of sight vertical. I have seen the UCD .46 hovered with a .46 and was recommended by a seasoned 3D flyer to stick with the light setup. Any balancing or throw problems that I should know about? I am thinking of leaving the wheel pants on the ground. How far back or forward from the firewall should I mount the engine? I've read of reinforcing the landing setup. I had a Great Planes Tracer that I had to reinforce. Give me any building hints. Thanks[8D]

Building hints? Check pages 1-34. :D

Pretty straight forward build. GREAT flier. Light is the way to go.

FLY THE S@#% out of it!!!!!!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

My father has one of these, and we were planning on putting a Saito 82 on it. Anyone try this combo out yet? The 82 weighs the same as the 72 but more punch.

Also if you are in the Cincinnati area in September 18th, the HAWKS is putting on its anual 4-stroke rally. We are raffling this plane fully assembled with an OS 70 4-stroke, and a Futaba 6exa radio, ready to fly. So come on out and bring yopur 4-stroke powered plane.

I just used the bolts supplied as a tap, i am using an OS 91 Surpass 1 in my UCD, and no problems, lock washers do the job and so far nothing has moved.

Interesting concept Pigman. A four stroke rally, neat! I'll have to slide down from Columbus.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

It's usually a pretty big event, I think we had 30 -35 flyers show up last year. Pretty good time, and lots o' 4-strokes!

My last message kinda got off topic, has anyone used the Saito 82 and the U-Can do 46?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

My UCD3D 46 just had it maiden flight a few weeks ago. This is my firs fun fly and I was expecting it ti fly slow and easy. I was correct until the engine died, after that the plane dropped like a brick, It didn´t matter how much up elevator I was pulling, the plane just went down and tore the landing gear. So, is this normal behavior? It has to do with the wing being so think?

I will appreciate If someone could give an advice on how to manage this kind of situations.

Thanks

If you move your CG back to 5.75 to 6", it will land much slower.

that good info to know i will try 6 inches

I am sure you can go back further than that, but I have not tried it and I would hate for someone else to crash on untried advice.

Rsuarez, next time you dead stick keep the nose down untill you are ready to flare for landing-With that fat wing and no prop wash all pulling the elevator does is stall the plane.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Good points, mine glides forever the cg is about 6. I have had several dead sticks and a couple of times I didn't even know it until I gave it power and it didn't speed up (because of the noise of other planes in the air). It just glided and glided and went whereever I pointed it.

That little flying lesson you gave Rsuarez should set him on the right track. Its hard to imagine a UCD 46 just dropping out of the sky.
If he doesn't take your advice he'll get in deeper trouble if he moves his CG back to 6 inches.
MY CG is currently at 6 inches and it flies a little better than my UCD 60.

Just ordered my 2nd UCanDo 46 from Tower.
149.99$ - 20$ - 15$ (Gift Certificate) = 115$ and no shipping charge.
Best thing is I get a new 15$ Gift Certificate with it.

Bought the Saito 82 GK for 251.99$ no shipping charge also.
I will see how this engine performs in it.

My current UCanDo has the OS50SX in it but lacks power at our altitude of 4500ft MSL.

Cool setup!

I finally flew mine, hovers at about 1/3 throttle with the 1.00

Pigman, I put a Saito 82a in my UCD 46. Nice combo. Started with Saito 100 and large Great Planes 2 piece motor mount, tank on CG, Perry oscillating pump. I thought 100 was overkill. Went to 82a, GP medium mount that came with the plane, and tank just behind engine. Reduced weight by 7 oz, is more responsive, vibrates less, and has sufficient power to pull out of botched maneuvers.

Cool, I thought it would make a good combo. Thanks for the info.

Let me know what you think of that 82 at that altitude. Most guys I've talked to are using the 1.00 at your altitude, makes me think the 82 may be a little less than what you want.

Is this the .82 that is the new one, same size/weight as the .72? Only reason I'm asking is that I got my Saito .91 for 220 from the LHS, no less. If it's the new one, I can understand the price, plus the GK version is usually about 20 bucks more for gold valve covers and a black case...

Hey, will a .91 4s fit in the stock motor mount? If not, is there a mount that will screw into the existing holes in the firewall?
