WAHOO!

Just got back from the maiden flight of the U CAN DO. Flies great, I get it pretty tame today to get used to the feel of the plane, but man it was great to have her up in the air.

I had the same problem with my servo travels. I picked up some new servo arms from Du Bro that are significantly longer and stronger than what was on there. By having the extra length at the servo arm you can use a smaller amount of servo travel, which should eliminate the binding.

Saito 91 goes in tonight! Can't wait for the four stroke.

18 sec hover i´m learning...

gjeffers, you tell me for a good flat spin put all the elvator trim, well i do more 45º and i can do a very flat an beautifull spin, a very nice ke spin, and i´m trying to do harrier, now i can do nice watterfall.

thanks gjeffers. soon , meibe i change my AX46 for a FX60 for a better hover.

your welcome Sergio, my inverted flat spin became better as i added more elevator and rudder and now it just sits there and spins(very tight because of max rudder).as far as ailerons go you dont need as much, just enough to keep her flat, and beautiful they are:D,glad i helped, the larger engine with larger prop will also help keep it more flat at less rpm's.

:)CeeGee, Most of my planes have that same situation on at least one servo. It doesn't mean it's binding, just that is has "camed" over the leverage point and can't get back over with you pushing it. As soon as you turn on your radio it goes right back to center, right? In fact with this situation you are not pushing too hard on the hinges which is a good thing. Sometime if you don't be careful you can have your servo max out the throws and then continue to push. In that case you are actually trying to pull the hinge out of place. That's bad

Sctcrash: Congratulations!!!!! Good job on your maiden flight. Aren't these UCDs great? Lot better than a Mayhem.

Went to the field today. Flew somebody's elses plane. Uproar 40. Not to bad but no UCD. I only flew it once and landed it without incident. I'm still taking some time in the penalty box for the way I've been acting lately. Maybe won't fly my own again. Maybe just mouch off the flyers already there. Cheaper.

CeeGee, you are talking about the horns on the aileron,right not the servo! if so mine are the same if i push them in the down position, but not with the tx on even with full rates, that would be a lotttt of travel.

:)Sorry, I probably misunderstood. I'm in a fog lately. Oh, I forgot to mention, but when I flew today I wore a new "lucky" tee shirt that I'll wear from now on. I stayed with my "lucky" hat although it's a little questionable. I put a rag in my rear pocket make from an exact copy of my "lucky" tee shirt. I also started wearing a pair of those fishing sunglasses. Somebody told me they are good luck. Seemed to work today.

Thanks guys, It was great. It really flew great, nice and stable, but i can tell that i can really let it loose when i am ready. I even had it in a breif inverted flat spin, but didnt realize it until i was falling out of it.

This was the first time i have actually taken off the maiden voyage on a plane. Well successfully that is, did my somethin extra the first time and had my ailerons wrong.

I saw an uproar at the field today also, it looked like it would fit inside my UCANDO. I still cant beleive how big the UCANDO really is.

Barry, haven't had a chance to try one out, but want to. That is the pcm thingy. Thinking about putting one in my cap 232. Any body have a 2.4 cc brission that they want to get rid of?

Hi All,

Been reading this forum from end to end and now have my own UCD .46 experience to share. Maidened her today and boy does it fly nice. I've got an OS 70FS running a 14 * 4 prop and it's almost perfect.

I'm a beginner to RC, only been flying about 5 months and I reckon this plane is the easiest I've flown so far. I've only got two flights up but I can tell straight away that it's a keeper. I've got the CG at about 4.75" and there is quite a bit of coupling during rolls and a bit of down elevator required for inverted flight so I'm going to move the CG back about half an inch and see how we go.

I stuffed the battery pack under the fueltank and also used a MG servo for the rudder and I had to add a lump of lead to the nose for the initial flights. I'll take that out now that I know it's docile enough for me.

One question - if I try to laterally balance the plane it seems the left wing drops quite a bit - is this normal? I'd like to not add weight to the wingtip as it's fairly fragile.

Welcome thirsty003... Great job on your UCD... And congrads on your Maiden!!
The CG range is pretty wide... Mine is at about 6" And tho a little touchy, She
still flys great.. If I remember correctly I think I added and oz to my left wing
also... I bought a used one and I had to redo the wing tips so I epoxied the
weight to the tip... No problems to date.. It has not moved even with my
flat spin landing, and a few deadstick harder landings.. Well enjoy your UCD
and keep us updated:-)

Thanks Raideron. I'm actually a practicing pattern flyer and I bought the UCD to practice pattern. I figure it should fly most pattern type stuff nice and slow and when I want to get into 3D I can do that also.

I had a little trouble trimming the UCD as it was falling out of loops and wouldn't climb straight up but it was a pretty windy day so I guess I'll have to wait for a calm day before trying any more trimming.

BTW - what weight did you add to your wing tip? I think you might have left that bit out of your reply :)

Good jog thirsty, Congrats on the maiden! What volt of batt are you using? You have the same set up as I do with mine. Except that I am using a 70 magnum. I think that the magunm is a little heavyer than the OS so I did not have to add any weight to the plane. I use the batt to set the cg on mine now. I also have the cg set back at around 5 to 5 1/2. I am using a 13x4w apc on mine with a 6 volt batt mounted under the canopy(painted it black) Not sure how many flights I have on mine but it is close to 20 I think. The way that I added weight to the wings is to take some split shot (fishing weights) and flatten them. I placed them on the wing until the wings were pretty level. then super glue them there. if you put them in the blue area, they don't show up so as bad. I am going to get some blue paint and pait them.

Hey Goldenclan,

I'm using the standard JR 600MaH battery under the fuel tank. I've taken some weight out of the front now so I should be on about 5" I reckon. I'm flying tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. I'm mostly into pattern at present but I reckon the 3D stuff will get me soon. The plane is just soo easy to fly.

Thanks for the tip regarding the tip weights. I'm going to do the whole pattern type trimming tomorrow if it's calm so we'll see what that shows up.

Hey long time no post! Well I mounted the Magnum .91 on my UCD and I'm going to attempt to fly it today. Only thing I'm sceptical about is my S3004's in the wings giving out. Oh well Ill replace them sooner or later.... Ive never run a 4s engine before so today will be a learning expereance for me...... Maybe if Im lucky I'll try some hovering! But Ill start out slow and get a feel for the engine...

welcome thirsty, youve picked one of the best flying planes out there(i love it). on that latteral balance thing, it might dip to the left wing because the muffler is on that side and im not sure about which side your throttle servo is on but if its on the left also that might be the reason, just something to think about,i just balance mine with the ailerons;) just as long as it flies great im not adding any weight:D
