RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Flew mine first time today with Magnum 80 4 Stroke. Nice plane. Knife edges are much better. Hovers easy. Gotta love it.
Had to put 3 oz lead and brass nose plug that weighed 3 oz. Right on the money ... but I think I may take off a couple so I can harrier better. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks mrctattoo!
Questions: ---Do you have your engine inverted? ---Do you have fueling problems...ie fuel tank too high, etc? ---Does the CG come out to your satisfaction with the "heavier" OS.91? ---What prop are you using with your OS? ---What size spinner? ---Did you need to alter the right thrust from stock? Thanks for any info. I'm glad someone is using on OS.91! |

Mine ... painted and trimmed the canopy as per pic. Looks very nice.
Magnum 80 4 stroke for power. HITec BB high torque's across the board. Breaking engine in with 13x6 Master Airscrew. Have 14x4 APC ready to put on after 10 flights. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Well after a long debate on this plane I went and put one on backorder. Can't wait till I get it, gonna be fun. I think I will be putting in the OS 91 4 stroke. Anyone using this combo is there any fuel problems like the tank being to high a gravity feeding the carb? Marc, I couldn't get the videos to open just comes up blank screen. What am I doing wrong? Thanks and keep the reports coming in. Chuck

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I'm using an OS 70 and haven't experienced any fuel problems.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Nice touch STLPilot, with the red canopy. What color red is that and is it sprayed or brushed on underneath?

I'm glad someone is using on OS.91! ---nope no fuel problems at all ---yes it comes out exacly what it calls for ---14X6 ---the one that it came with just enlarge the holes ---nope i did not alter the thrust from stock hope this helps and i just came from the field and it was great it flew nice and i tuch the ground with the tail wile hovering and went full trot. and went like a rocket you will love this conbination i am using wild cat 10% take care and thanks |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks mrctattoo!
I'm ordering my .46UCANDO this week. Will use a 15x4W APC, 6volt 1650MA battery on my Futaba 9202's. Can't wait, but I know it will be on backorder.............. I noticed that Earl Williams lowered his stab??? Is this really necessary to achieve great flying? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
well i like it the way it is but again i have not try that yet earl will be the one to anwser that but it flys great you will love it and i got 1100nihms on mine and std. ball bering sevos and one hi thork for the rudder and is great i bet with the servos your putting will be even better

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Mrctatto,
Thanks for all the great information. I will be setting mine up the way yours is. I have a 50SX on order but will be sending it back and get the OS 91 4 stroke. I want to climb out with authority also. Hurry up backorder ! |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
so does anyone feel stronlgy against using a .61 in this plane?
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I am flying my UCD 46 with an Evolution NT 46 from Horizon with a 12.25 X 3.75 APC prop and it flies just great. I am just starting flying power planes and I am having a ball flying it. The reason for the engine selection was strictly a test. I work at a hobby shop and we wanted to see how the combination performed. I had one of the 3D pilots test fly it and he was able to do harriers and hovers with very little difficulty. I think a .61 would be a good combination as well. We plan to put the new Evolution .61 NT as soon as we get them in. The total weight of the plane is 6 lb. 4oz. with no fuel.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
thanks for the input
anyone else have opinions about a 60 size 2 stroke in it? i was looking at teh flip and they even recommend a 60 in it, and its lighter. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I flew my UCD 46 many times yesterday, with an OS .61 FX in it. Temp was about 92 Deg.
I've tried both a 12.5 x 6 and a 13 X 5 prop. After yesterday, I wish I put a 91FX in there. It just slid backward out of the hover every time. I'm gonna try a 14 X 4 and a 13 X 4, but it's clearly marginal at best. Great flyer otherwise! One of the problems is that if you prop for knife edge (speed) you lose hover (pull) when the engine power is marginal. BY THE WAY!!! Is it only me, or does the shape of the wingtips on the UCD freak you out? Any aerodynamic guys want to take a shot at why they are like that? Avoid tip stalls? Eh? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
wow, so it wouldnt even hover with a 61 fx in there, and they recomend a 50 for it. wow.
i think im gonna buy me a 90 4 stroke for it |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Just letting you know that today I flew my UCANDO about 1/2 dozen times. On my last flight I noticed that my barrel rolls were not as fast as usual even with high rates. I continued to perform 3D with hovers and everything else. When I laned I noticed I had lost one of my ailerons. The servo arm was broke. Now I know I flew more then half of a 10 minute flight without one of my ailerons and I barely noticed the difference.
I am amazed how well it handled. So if you lose an aileron ... have no fear. You won't even notice hardly till its on the ground. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
That is until you fly it that way to fast...
The the aileron will wave bye-bye... :) Originally posted by STLPilot Just letting you know that today I flew my UCANDO about 1/2 dozen times. RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
STLPilot
So the arm broke at the servo, not a horn at the control surface? Were you using standard arms that come with the radio set? Were you really wringing it out at the time? I'm glad that you were able to get it down to fly again. Are you going to put on HD servo arms? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
It was the servo arm. It was just broke ... maybe brittle?? I don't remember what I was doing because I did not notice that it broke suddenly. I was doing some fast blenders during the flight. I noticed when I was doing some rolls ... they were not as fast as usual ... but definatley fast enough to keep my flying. I was just thinking that maybe my dual rates on the ailerons were just really set low. I have lost an aileron before an it is EASILY noticeable on say a GP Extra 40. Honestly ... I flew it 3D for over 5 minutes ... landed ... and never even thought that a servo was completely out on the aileron. It just goes to show you what oversized ailerons can do for such a light plane. Like Morbid said .. maybe I would have lost the aileron altogether ... but still would have landed no problem. I have no fear again of losing an aileron on this UCANDO.
I did however lose one of my elevator servos on one of my many crashed 60 UCANDO's. One was not enough as the other was "stuck" in down position rendering the other one useless. Had it been a broken horn or whatever else, it would have just flapped in the wind and the other elevator servo to the rescue. Not in this case. |

My ucando-46 review will be using the OS 70FS...I hope to have it in the air in the next week or two at the latest.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I've been flying my ucd 46 for a week or so and love it. Saito 72 for power with cg at 5 3/4. This cg is "as built", with no weight added anywhere. Pitch was a bit sensitive at this cg so I reduced the elevator throw to soften it up a bit...so far so good.
This is my first cowled aircraft and the engine seems to run extemely warm. I'm wondering how much of the bottom cowl should be cut away to allow for proper cooling????? FYI...the inlet opening is 2 1/4 inches. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I've always heard that the rule of thumb is twice as much exit than intake. So the exit should at least be 4 1/2".

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
tower's latest estimate is late july now... anyone know of another online hobby store that has them in stock?
