The plane is on the bench now. I haven't finalized between the OS 70, Saito 80 or YS 63 but will this week. I'm waiting for a little more feedback myself before a decision is made since this one is for review in the RCU magazine. Since I did a detailed review of the big brother I can compare the two planes. I've had a lot of time on the big brother so I'll be able to see what the differences might be.

WOW, I just got back from the field with the UCD 46 with a SAITO 100 on the front. THIS ENGINE IS THE TICKET. It flies so much better than its big brother. IT HARRIERS with spoilerons. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PLANE TUMBLE AND FLIP SO FAST.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I'm looking forward to the RCU review! Earl I agree that this is a large plane...does not look like your typical .40 sized plane....more like a 60....you're starting to sway me toward the saito or possible the ys 91 (110)...

Servos:
I'm going to use 2-8231s on the ailerons an 8411 on the tail.....but for the elevator I have a 9205 (left over from a gyro I sold) and a Hitec hs 545...can anyone give some input as to whether mixing servos on the elevator would create any problems?

Thanks!

What prop are you using on it? Did you replace the spinner?Sounds like the Saito 100 is the way to go.

THE 100 IS THE IDEAL WIEGHT SAME AS THE PROTYPE'S OS 70 AND MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER. THE YS 91 OR 110 WEIGH ABOUT 4OZ MORE PLUS AOTHER OZ. OR 2 FOR THE MUFF. I HAVE THE YS110 AND IT IS PEREFECT FOR THE BIG BROTHER BUT NOT ON THE LITTLE ONE.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I've not seen anyone flying this with the Saito 72 yet, which is the engine that is sitting on my shelf for this plane.

I had purchased Hitec HS-605's all around for this but then saw the manual had Futaba 3004's installed. They call for 50 oz/in on the elevators and ailerons and the 3004's come in at around 45 oz/in are they enough? Anyone flying like this? My other thought on the elevators and ailerons are the Hitec HS-225's as this would save a couple of ounces and are rated at 50 oz/in, then put a 605 on the rudder.....course they are calling for 90 oz/in on the tail, will 75 be enough with the 605's?

What prop would you all suggest for the Saito 72? I have a 13 x 6 would this be appropriate?

Thanks

Marc,

It looks nice with the Purple trim. Did you cover it yourself? I haven't seen a purple one on the Great Planes web site.

earl,

How long are your flight times with the Saito 100? I am trying to decide if the 8oz tank that the kit comes with is enough.

The supplied fuel tank is enough for a short flight..

I have my timer set at 10 minutes and have about 3 - 4 oz left. I think it drinks about 1 oz a minute at full throttle. I very seldom go full throttle.

Wow! I go away for a couple of weeks and I come back and this thread has almost 200 posts in it...... :D

Now I have been watching the Tower website and it still says they won't be in stock until early July. So how did you guys get a hold of them?

Also Marc have you decided on which engine to use yet? I have an OS FS-70 II sitting at home here waiting for an airframe so that is what I will be using.

So please go ahead and use your OS 70 so that I don't have to be the first.....that way I can ready your review and pick up on any little tricks or tips! hehe......

What about a YS .63? Has anyone seen the .46 fly with this engine?

Yes it could cause problems. Imagine you instantly hit full up elevator (Wall..., plus others) One servo may move faster than the other, which would cause the plane to yaw a little until they both reach the stop point.

(got my ucd3d 46 on backorder at tower, hurry up!!!)

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Check my previous post. My UCD 46 has a YS 63. My second trip to the field I switched to 30% heli fuel. The engine peforms much better, faster throttle response.Pulls out of a hover alot better with this fuel.

Has anyone done a side by side comparison with the Funtana yet? It appears that the Funtana is coming in a little bit lighter from what I have been reading.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Unfortunately, the manufacturers reports can be a little off. I was wondering what kind of weights people were getting with the same engine, say a Saito 72. Also flight reports with said engine.

Thanks for the info though.

For sure! Definitely replace with 4-40 at least. The control rod lenghts for the elevator halves and rudder appear much longer than that on UCD-3D 60. It took Tower 3 tries to get me an undamaged wing! Finally got a good one last week. Phew. Time to assemble.

Any one fly one of these with an OS 70 yet? Any comments?
