I find the inverted flatspin easiest. Pull up to a safe alt , chop throttle, push the nose over just like you would do for an outside loop.
When your upside down slam full right rudder and throttle back up using the elevator slightly to keep you flat. If your plane is balanced and you got some beef and prop in the engine room you can climb back up in a flatspin. Looks so cool with a rich 4stroke or a smoke pump going. I have some video of this in full scale and RC scale flown by pros. But no way to host it here. I have flown a plane with the power to do this. But a tail slide and an outside loop was about as much as my cousin would let me try in his Pitts S2-B. I did make him take my picture with the plane afterward though. What a rush. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)I have a Saito 100 in my 60 size UCD. It is fine. I like it a lot. I think you would have a hard time with balance with a 120 in there. And I don't think the power would be necessary. Mine weighs 7 lbs 8 ozs. (after repair from my last stupid) The 100 flys it great. I don't really want more power in it. gjeffers had one with the 100 also. I think he liked it but now he's power hungry. He'd be able to give you an idea also. On the 60 thread most are liking the 100 but some have changed to YS 110 and say they like the plane better. I'm leaving the 100 in mine.
Thanks, Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Raid, nice looking profile! (even if it is CA'ed together lol) joking . What type of paint are you using on the APC tips ? I notice that with my APC's its very hard to see the prop wash and one of these times I'll have a brain fart and get bit.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Spud, Raideron, & Sturtz,
Thanks for the info on the flat spins. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow but I'll be breaking in a new engine so I probably won't attempt until this weekend. I can't wait to see that flat spin climb! -v_twin |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)OK guys, I'm looking at my earlier posts, the ones with the two pictures and now I can't get the pictures to come up. Yet everybody else's pictures seem to be displayed. Did I do something wrong? Were they that bad? What gives?
I'm gonna try to post some more. We'll see what happens. This could get addicting as well as the planes. Thanks, Barry |

:)Some more pictures. These pictures are actually ones of me flying my Ultra Stick a couple of months ago. My left handed friend's wife took them and gave me copies. I used my scanner, another new experience. Let's see how they turned out.
Thanks, Barry |

:)Up close Ultra Stick with new camera. Shows servos moved to tail. This is a sweet plane. Pretty close to being as fun to fly as the UCDs.
thanks, Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Barry,
The latest pictures look good. Looks like you could use a little green though. I wasn't able to view the other pictures this morning when I tried. I wonder why they weren't there... Northwing, Duluth, huh? I live and fly down in the cities. I tried to get up there a couple of months ago to get to an RC auction in Superior but was unable to make it. Do you have a nice field up there? I usually get up to Duluth once or twice a summer. -v_twin |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Barry, Nice flying area you got there. I like it. I saw one of the guys at our field come out with a U Stick 120 and it was really impressive. Big plane. [X(] We were teasing him as he was flying around that he needed clearance to land.....[X(]

:)CeeGee. Thanks, it is a pretty nice flying area, but we don't get to much green although lately we've had a lot of rain. I don't know why my other pictures aren't coming up either. Probably something dumb I did. Here's a couple of more pictures. Remember, you guys asked.!?!?!?!?! Thanks,

:)Whoa this is fun. At least for me. That last picture was after a flat spin landing while trying to shut off my timer. These next few are the UCD 60, after most recent repairs. She flys good.
thanks, Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I like that dark canapy, Barry. Very sharp. How many UCD's have you owned?
Also, what glow plug are you using with your Saito? |

:)Some more.
V-twin1K, I use the OS-F glow plugs in all my 4 stroke engines, which is all my engines. I like the painted canopy also. Makes people wonder what you have under there. I have owned 4 UCD46 and 2 UCD60. I like these planes. Thanks, Barry Collection of crashed planes First UCD46 First UCD60 Ultra Stick 40 and Trainer Infamous timer which has cost me my 3rd UCD46 and my Mayhem. |

:)Ok, Ok, I can hear you already, "enough of the pictures!!!!" Ok, I've shared enough. Sorry. I'll post this last one which is my 4th UCD46. Still ready to build. This is the one that getting the 100. I should build it this next week. Fun Fun Fun.
Thanks, Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I love the pictures Barry. [8D] Send all you want. Well, I mean if you start sending pictures of your house foundation, it might be too much then...[:-] My concern is that you have one too many 110's. It's unlucky to have an odd number of engines. You should probably sell one to me..........[X(]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey John... Now enough with the CA.... I can see it now, do
a snap and the wings flies off... But see I already have a plan since the fuse is so tall I'll just transition into a K.E. and bring her down.... MMmm wait a minute, my gear is in the wing... I may need longer extensions for this to work... On the paint, The first paint I used was Lustrekote which was left over from a project, which worked great... But that's long gone now... So I just use any old cheapy paint that I have it works, if I don't sand it good enough it'll peel on the edges after a while.. You can see it a lot better, Not to mention balancing... Great Pics Barry... Nice field.... Our field is brown... But we don't have those short stubby things growing... Sort of looks like CeeGee's .... But somethings different???????????? Are you in your back yard and is that your house in the background??? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Northwing,,, I'll be in Duluth the 24 thru the 28th of June. Bringing a plane with me too. Let's hook up and fly.
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)CeeGee. I think I'm ok with the amount of YS engines I have but if you're desperate...?????
Raideron, I wish that was my house. It's a pretty nice one but the guy's always griping about wild aircraft flying over his "air space" Once in a while he steps out with a shotgun and fires a couple of warning shots. But the nice thing for me is that field is actually 3 miles from my work. So many times I either fly early and then go to work or fly during my lunch or fly just after work. It's great that way but it's always 10MPH winds. Just a fact of life here. The wind stopped suddenly one time and half the people in town fell over. Quite a sight. Thanks, Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)In that picture of me flying the Ultra Stick you can see trees off in the distance. And they are off in the distance. Really not in the flying space unless you get wAAAAAAAAAy out there. There are hawks that live in those trees. At least there were. (Mayhem)
Thanks, Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Gang,
I have a quick question, I would like to know what throws you have you control surfaces set at? I have 4 flights on a just finished UCD .46, Saito .72, CG at 5 1/4, HD long servo arms maxed at about 60 degrees, hinge lines sealed, flaperons setup. Are the recommended throws for 3D really enough to make this plane perform? I know I have it set a overkill right now, when I try to transition from a waterfall to a flat spin I wind up in a knife edge fall! Hey, the plane does a nice climbing inverted flat spin! Have not got enough time on it to know if the upright flat spin will behave the same. Also experencing some coupling in KE flight any suggestions on that one? Opps I guess that is more than one question! Sorry Thanks Sargent |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
i keep trying to turn the switch off Ron but i cant----------HELP[:@] nicce plane[8D]
hey svanos, i have a 60 and i dont see a 120 in it, but the ys110 i seeeeee. the 120 is 7-8oz heaver and you would have some fabbing to do to balance, but it could be done(the ys110 would be easier) and i think about the same power:eek: WOW Sturtz, that looks like me in that plane(what a dream) you lucky guy, ive only had the pleasure to take the controls of a cessna 175,(and it was a blast)let me know when you can take me for a ride and ill be right there:D Hockeyrules, are you trying to tell me i had a brainfart?haw haw!!!! v twin 1k,lots of elevator and rudder;) Barry, are you sure you dont live in kansas?maybe that is why you keep crashing, you have to land in kansas not idaho:Dyour picks are great, it is addicting also, what isnt in this conglamoration of fun[&:]and is your friends wife left handed or your friend, it makes a difference!!!!! CeeGee, i have to go fishing now so ill talk to you guys when i get back, watch, the wind will quit till i get back ,Ron get ready nice is comming:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffers. Sorry you have to go. We look forward to your return. Hope you catch fish. I'm glad you hve to clean them and not me. However. I know that a 14x4W prop makes a great filet knife. Try it. It's my friend that's left handed. His wife is ok.
Sargent, Yeah, the throws on this airplane are plenty to make it 3D. In fact in almost every case I have to back off a little bit after I've start to keep from rolling out. And your right, this plane will do one of the prettiest knife edge couplings I've ever seen. Breathtaking. Started my 4th tonight. Already got the wing together. Funny, I don't even look at the manual. Any I'm getting faster, mostly because, cowl, landing gear, carbon fiber rods, motor mount, battery, servos etc. are already together. I may make it by Saturday. I'm still in the box but when this baby is done so am I. I'll fly then. Thanks, Barry PS: Now I can't think of anything to take a picture of. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks Barry, I'll back em off then! I have been flying a H9 Twist and have been real happy with everything set about 45 degrees + flaperons. Hope this plane is at least close to as sweet flying as it is. Note I said is, not was!
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Sargent, I had a Twist also, with Saito 82 in it. It was a real fun plane. I thought it was very close to the UCD46. I almost felt as if I had duplicate airplanes so I sold it. The twist would do a wee better inverted rising flat spin, but everything else the UCD does better. So I opted for the UCD. I've been happily crashing them ever since.
Thanks, Barry |
