RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I am thinking that i will need to put the battery under the fuel tank to balance the plane, will a flat pack fit lenght wise, or will a hump back fit height wise.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

hockeyrules99... No the fuse is just the basic stick/covering ARF.. There
is a lot of cut-outs through out the fuse... Seems to be built good, the
push rods are kinda thin... If the plane makes it through it's first flight
and it flies ok, I'll get stronger ones.. Yeah it's almost(looks) like the
morris hobbies plane with almost the same color scheme.. Hey, for half
price I went for it... It's close to being finished, if all goes right maybe I'll
try it tomorrow or on Monday... Maybe.. I hate to drill it out for the FX
then get the YS... On the, slide the wing on and apply a bead of med. CA
That's what Kangke wants and I ended up doing it that way... Hey I pulled
and twisted the wing and it ain't moving??? We'll see.. They said to do the
same on the stab., But I'm going to do that the normal way.. It's not in
cased like the main wing...

sctcrash... You really can't beat better servos.... Centering, speed etc.
things that you think won't make that much of a difference... But on some
maneuvers you will see how much better they are.. On my first flight with
my used UCD I actually used my "trainer" onboard system with the standard
bushing servos... Then when I got the system I have now.. I did notice the
difference, it just made things eaiser... I really notice the difference on the
Rudder with the higher torq./speed it just responded smoother and quicker
which for me made hovering it so much eaiser.. If your also getting a
charger for you six volt.. a Nimh is better than Nicad..... Lets not even get
into the high tech battery..... Well again that's my story and I'm sticking to
it:-)

Barry..... Yeah I know[:@]...... Don't test it then itch your forehead:-( Don't ask

Have a Great Day people
..... Darn Wind.......

Half the fun of building a plane is peiling the CA off your fingers.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Well....................I DUN IT!!!! I am officially a U-CAN-DO-3D pilot! I woke up about an hour before sunrise and got all my stuff together in my truck, one hangar 9 Alpha trainer and wing, one UCD3D and a wing (behind the seat), all my feild equipment and last but not least, my radio. This morning would be the first time I have been to the feild to fly since the last of october.
The first flight of the trainer was to get my nerves calmed down. I flew it approx 30 minutes until the batteries went dead on the alpha.
Next was the UCD. I spen more than 30 min going over the flight check to be sure it was ready to go. Just before I go ahead with the maiden, I take some pics of it running on the stand. I took a couple of test runs on the grass to see how it was tracking and it was doing great. After about four passes on the ground, it was time.Got her lined up and throttled her up and off she went. Before she was off the ground I knew that it would need lots of right aileron trim adjustment so immediatly got it done. Then there was a dire need of up elevator, After that, it was pretty much smooth sailing. But for some reason, I felt real uncomftorble because it seemed REALLY tail heavy. The tail was alway wanting to drop off. I have the CG at about 5-1/2 if I can remember right. Anyways, flew it around real slow and calm and did one touch and go to see how it landede and you guys are right about the feather. Just a big ole pillow! Verry nice slow flight on this thing! I like it! Right after the touch and go, I got hit REAL hard with somthing like a blast of wind but it was super calm, it dipped real hard to the left but I recovered. I did one more round and it started to do it real bad. So I start to come it for final approach and my radio starts beeping at me telling me my battery is at about 8.8 volts! Thats where the hits were coming from, not enought juice! So, got the plane back in one peice and everything went great! I just need to fix the CG so I feel mor comftorble with it.

I have some pix for you guys but I need to resize them. I will post them after I get off of work today.

MAN THAT WAS FUN!!!!!

Joe

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

great job kokamo, I went flying today also, Wind was getting pretty stiff, but wanted to fly it. took off and it did great did a touch and go and some Kinda hovers, I am still looking for the sweet spot on the throttle for it. I even did a tourqe roll!! With the wind being about 15 to 20, I had to land with a little power or it would start to go back wards! Did a few landing with no forward movement and set it right down in front of me and my friend. It was a blast doing the landing and every thing else.

raideron 05-06-2005 02:26 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Great Job Joe!!! They are a Blast!!... I think because of the longer
tail moment the UCD's tail does sort of fly lower at slow speeds, But
still so very controllable... Sort of like an auto harrier:-) I think my
CG is around 6"....... 30+mins. and the tranny battery is down... Time
to recycle or new batteries... You didn't dirty my truck now, did you:-)

sctcrash.... Your turn:-) Let us know how it goes...

Kokamo,

Nice job!!!

Now be careful that you don't run it too long cause you're having too much fun!

I am always landing with fumes cause I don't want the fun to stop.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Made the 4th and 5th flights on my new U-Can-Do 3D .46 last weekend. The 5th flight ended in the same manner as the 2nd flight; the engine suddenly quit while in level flight. No warning, no surging, no leaning out or anything. Other than this "feature," the engine sounds good and is running in a rich 2-cycle, even when climbing straight up. I've tried 3 different glow plugs, including non idle-bar (OS #8) and a K & B idle-bar type. No joy. I just ordered and received some new Fox idle-bar plugs, so I'll try those next.

The engine is a well used, but in good condition, Super Tigre G.61. Good compression, stock carburetor. I installed a Perry pump into the backplate of this engine a couple of years ago and it worked well in conjunction with a Perry pump carburetor while I had the engine installed in my faithful Super Kaos. The Perry carb was damaged when my Kaos augered in, so I initially tried a backup Perry carb on the first day I flew my UCD. I couldn't get a decent idle, so I field-replaced the Perry with the stock carb and bypassed the pump. Ran great for first flight, pooped out (quit) part way through second flight, as it also did on the 5th flight.

Since last weekend I've hooked up the Perry pump to the stock carb to see if it helps (or, makes things worse). According to some info at Tower Hobbies, the stock Super Tigre carb will work with a Perry pump (the blue one).

To be continued...

CONGRATS KOKO!! Glad you got in the air ...it does seem to fly tail heavy at low power settings ...but I got used to it ..lol I'm balanced at 5.5 inches..looking forward to seeing the pics..

hey guys i have a question,[&:] how many oz is the stock tanks supposed to be, i was under the impression they were 8oz, i dont know where i got that (cant find it anywhere ) but its not and all this talk about putting a 11oz in it is worthless because my stock tank is 11oz(270 cc). i have no conversion chart, does anybody know off hand how many oz's 270 cc are?should be close.man i dont know where i heard it was 8oz, i know, i know, its oldtimers disease[:-]:D

:)gjeffers, 28.4 CC to the ounce. Your stock 270CC tank is about 9.5 ounces. Now you are going to tell us you are getting as good a milage as you thought.
Thanks,
Barry

Ok, now that I have gotten all my nervs together, here are some pics. Again, these are while the plane is running and warming up so you will see a blur from the prop spinning.

Hockey,
Barry Crazier,
gjeffers,
Kaos,
Raideron,
Liberator,
Goldenclan,
Sctcrash,
and last but definately not least.....CeeGee
and prolly lots more!

Guys, you have all been so great, you guys have gotten my confedence up to fly this thing by myself. Again, this is my second "real" plane not counting my slo-V. Sooooo much info here, Sooooo many nice peolpe to help out. THANKS TO YOU ALL!!!!

Raid.....I don't know what is up with the battery in the TX or the alpha, I charged em all up last night. I must have by accident switched the TX on when I put it in my flight box. Dunno. I did cycle it the best I could. I turned it on and left it on until it was competly dead, then I charged it back up the normal way with the wall charger. I have done this several times and it usually lasts for 4 or 5 hours at the feild. Again, I may have switched it on when I put it in the flight box or it just may be time for a new one. Same goes with the Alpha battery.

Man WHAT A GREAT DAY! I had a BLAST! I got thru about ten or twelve rounds over the feild and that good ole saito-72 didn't miss a lick! It ran perfect!

Ok, I'll shutup, here are some pics!......(Iwas by my lonesome so I couldent get any "in-flight pics) I'm not that good yet:D

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)raideron, One of the best investments I ever made in this hobby is new batteries. I use Hobbico HydriMax NiMH batteries. I replaced my transmitter battery with the 1450mH 9.6 volt. The cost from Tower is $35. I use the 4.8 volt 1650mA receiver battery. $18. I left my transmitter on, on purpose to see how long it would take to run down. I have a computer radion Futaba 9 CAP. It started at 11.3 volts. At 4 1/2 hours later it was at 9.0 volts. I use my standard overnight charger. The receiver batteries are good for at least 10- 13 minute flights. Basically I charge overnight the night before flying and then don't worry about it all day. Also there is no need to "cycle" these batteries. My transmitter battery is about 1 year old. I've charged it many times and still don't see a difference in longevity. These are a great bargin and take away one of the worries at the field. Get these batteries. You won't be sorry.
Thanks,
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)CeeGee. Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how you did. Also, give us a comparison of the Twist to the UCD. I had a Twist. I liked it but found it similar to UCD and sold it. Still have the UCD. Ok, not the original, or even the 2nd or 3rd. But I still have one. The Twist is amazing. It will make the UCD look sick when you flatspin. Can you imagine that? Anyways, mine would also do a rising flatspin. It is fun to fly but I couldn't hover it very well. (I'd like to try again now that I'm a little better pilot) Fun, but I liked the UCD better. Let us know what you think.
Thanks,
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Joe nice field!!! And as Barry said.... What's is all that green stuff:-) We have
Brown.... But I hate that brown truck....

Barry.. The batteries wasn't for me, My nicads are still doing good.... I have
been thinking(do that a lot, ?????? does not do any good) about the switch to
nimh, but then I thought, may as well go to lipo's/reg. and as you can see I'm
still with my nicads, I have a few of them and there all still good...

raideron 05-06-2005 08:14 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hey Gary... On Tower it list the tank as 8oz.. 270cc.. And when I replaced
mine which I bought in Vegas at Hobby people, It was exactly the same
tank and it was listed with the same tank size.... So I'll go with 8oz.. My
tank M.T.'s too fast to be any bigger:-))... Maybe its 8oz because of the
fuel/oil mix.... Think that makes sense...
