RE: Experiences Hyde mount "Firm Idle"
Basically this mount is a product to compete with other mounts out there that don't reduce the vibration as much as the regular Hyde but are still acceptable to some modelers.
My personal experience with the look alikes they don't reduce the vibration as well.
I have some Hyde Mounts from the mid 1990's on ys SF's and AC's and they are still going strong. The first Budd Mount I saw came apart in 20 flights. And this was a 2 stroke not a 4 banger. Yes it was replaced with a sorry about that we had some bad glue. The new mount came apart in about 15-20 more flights. The answer was a replacement and sorry we had some old rubber. Service was great the product was crap.
He broke the nose pretty bad each time. He sold the new Budd and called Merle. That Hyde is now almost a year old and has about 250 flights.
Not bashing a product here. The Budd Engineering service was top rate. Service and customer support is one thing but Its just that the product is not a good as Merle's.
You do get what you pay for. Back to these new mounts from Merle will help you out in the vibration category and will stay together too. Merle is just being honest in saying that they are not as good at vibration damping as his other mounts. Many of the other companies aren't so honest in their evaluation. Instead they are proud to be offering a copy cat version that really doesn't cut the mustard.
Opinions are like rear ends we all have them, I just shared with you mine. Now some die hard budd guy is going to tell why his is so great. I came, I saw and I bought the T-Shirt. Stay with one of Merle's mounts and you will be better off. I have never even heard of one of merle's failing. Now that Merle has these less expensive alternative mounts there is no excuse to not go with the one brand that will not let you down. Its been proven over and over again.
by the way I'm a happy customer not a sponsored pilot. I'm not the cream of the crop in the piloting department. I pay full boat every time I buy anything. So I'm letting you know where my $$$ will fall.
