Spray equipment, simple: Sata Minijet 3 or 4. Digital is the best, but I can't paint well enough to justify it (yet!!!!)
I know some people who have had great success with the HVLP sprayers from Home Depot. But they feel nothing like the Sata. You get what you pay for. But you can really lay a nice finish with these if you practice a little and get it adjusted right.
Compressor: all you can get. Minumum 15 gallon tank, with filters and a dryer inline with the gun. A regulator at the gun is nice too, you'd be suprised how much drop in pressure you can get if you just use one at the compressor.
And of course, a full respirator and a well ventilated paint booth. I'm using the roll up one that was featured in MA a few months back. When I get a bigger shop I'm going to set up a "for real" paint booth.
