I'm just curious why you think that a pipe would be quieter than removing the muffler baffle & drilling the outlet pipe, or have I misenterpreted what you are saying?

-------------------

I used muffled tuned pipes when flying pattern. They were much quieter than the stock mufflers (seventies and early eighties). Did I miss something?

----------------

The non muffled pipes can be loud. The muffled pipes have a flat rear end where the stinger exits. I was using OPS and Mac's muffled pipes.

However, even though the exhaust was quieter, the prop noise was horrendous. I loved it! That was back before the PC folks went nuts and slapped noise restrictions on pattern models. Those were the good old days. <G>

It seems that I missed something -- I'm surprised that the pipe would be quieter than a stock muffler. The pipes that I used years ago would blow your ears out.
