RE: DH-Comet
The owner of the factory who manufacture this plane is a buddy of mine. I see him fly this plane at our field many times, and I did try my hands on it. He's using two OS 70 FSII's, with air retracts. The plane's fast and aerobatic, and few times this plane rallied together with other 46 class low wing trainers and "blow their doors off". That plane could loop, roll, knife edge and even snap roll, but slow flying also very stable. The only time I saw it crash is during a photo session the plane have to fly slow low pass for the camera man and one of the engine flame out....Well the guy have a factory full of these planes so its no worries!
Another guy uses twin OS40LAs, fixed gear, and while power is not enough still the plane could manage a few rolls. The next week the owner changed to twin OS50s and it rips the skies, amid with less horses to pull vertical than the twin OS 70 FS...
Now we have 5 other guys at our field having the same plane, different engine setup (two OS 50 twins, one Saito 53 twin, one OS 70 Ultimate twin, one YS63 twin and one Magnum FS61 twin), but all of them opt to have fixed gears as its a pain to watch other guys fly while foot pumping air into the retracts.... We plan to have them fly together sometime later. It would be quite a scene!
My 0.2 cents....
