Beginner needs help.
I inherited a couple of RC airplanes from my mother in-laws husband when he passed. He had a HUGE collection when he died and told my mother in-law that I could have anything I wanted from it. I chose one that he had shown me and one that he pointed out was a learner he was going to teach me to fly with. I didn't take his best planes or get greedy and ask for more than 2. His children didn't want any of his collection so my mother in-law sold about 90% of it to local dealers. I think she said she made over $15,000 from the planes she sold. She kept a few planes, his boats and trains because they were stored and out of the way but the 32 airplanes she sold took up the whole 3 car garage.
On to the reason I registered here. I'm not really into RC things but my dad has always wanted to learn to fly them since we live right by our local flying field. I don't know what I need to fly these planes besides remotes and fuel. She has many remotes but she didn't know which one went for what plane. The largest one is a 1/4 scale P-51. I remember that much about it from him describing it to me. He had another almost exactly like it but he said it wasn't exactly scale and it was more for racing. He also told me he had won several races with it and it would do 250mph. I don't know if that was true or not but that's what he said. The one I got he said would do 220 as it wasn't as stremlined but had the same engine. The other plane is a thin bodied plane with large broad wings. I looked some planes up and I did notice that several similar planes that looked exactly like it were learners so I'm sure this one is as well. I wonder if any of you guys are from around Arkansas might have known him. His name was Tom Lowerre. He was originally from Brooklyn New York and had a hobbie shop there.
What do I need to do to get started?
