I think this was talked about once in the classic pattern forum. I seem to remember that there was no airfoil problems, but the exhaust was causing turbulence over the stab and this is where some of the 70's pattern planes used anhedral in the stab to get out of that dirty air caused buy pipes. As a side note i always lateral balance a plane, pipe or no pipe.
