You should be fine with the bird dog and the Cessna. Both are easy flying airplanes and very predictable. The Cessna probably has ailerons so that would help get you ready for your future planes. Also I'd recommend looking at the GWS Corsair or one of there other warbirds before trying out your Herr kit.
