Alright Chris - since you're around:

JR and I have been watching this development with some interest and it looks like you may have a modicom (sp?) of experience . . .perhaps.

What I've seen and priced for 120 mm fans equals to about 1,200 for a decent power plant (1 set of batteries). Have I got that right? Can it be done cheaper?

Certainly, the development of the LiPos, brushless motors and ESC's has really made this interesting @ the realistic 9-10 lb thrust level; got some old airframes begging for such motivation at a local, not as turbine-friendly field...
That's about right with a smaller battery, a bit more for a 5-6 minute flight. Test flight this weekend on my latest project - http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showa...hmentid=776448 7.5 pounds of thrust in a 10 pound RTF plane. Scuse the wobbly flight, I was trimming like mad on 3 different flight ode switch positions
