Default Fixed Position Slats OK?

Ted--

Interesting discussion. I'll be interested to see how your A10 turns out. I'm planning to build one "one of these days".

In the works, though, I have a BTE Flyin' King, and I'm building an STOL wing for it with leading edge slots and fowler flaps. I haven't finished this wing yet, I thought I'd fly for a while on the "stock" wing.

The slots are not added-on like slats, but integrated into the airfoil profil of the wing. Fancy woodworking! The fowler flaps have the "proper" airfoil shape and use Robart hinges for actuation.

The best source I found for info on slats/slots and flowler flaps is _Basics of R/C Model Aircraft Design_ by Andy Lennon. He has some novel model designs that can be applied to a variety of situations.

Another good reference is: Martin Simons' _Model Aircraft Aerodynamics_ .

Another "future" scale model will be a 1/6 scale Fieseler Storch, with full STOL capabilities.
