Default JETI speed controller

The controller is a JES25 I think. It is connected up as I would expect. (fully charged) battery connected to the SC, outputs connected to a speed 400 motor and the flying lead connected to the (JR I hope) 4 channel receiver.

I didn't give too much info as I was guessing that the beeping would be due to a well known problem (e.g. low battery or something. I was a little surprised that the instruction with the controller did not cover this. I was also disappointed that the JETI website didn't have much info on it.

I'm guessing that I am doing something fundamentally wrong. I have a feeling that I was connecting power and then turning the radio on. Should the radio be on before power is turned on to the JES?
