Probably all of us who use glow fueled engines have had one start or at least backfire a time or two when priming even with no glow ignitor connected. It is rare but does happen, usually when the weather is warm and you have had the engine warmed up from a previous run. I ALWAYS keep a good hold on the prop when priming so that it can not fire and hurt my fingers.
