I think if you are actually wanting to learn RC on a tight budget, the Parkzone Slo V is the way to go for the space you have said. It has basic 3 channel control so that you can get the most out of it without having an aileron plane. The Aero Ace is a whole lot of fun, but I use mine only for front yard flying. I don't really consider it an actually trainer, the controls are way to simple

It's still a great airplane though.
