RE: Chip Hyde Cap-X and Evolution 1.6
Emvin,
I had a Saito 180 for mine. I sold it and put a ZDZ 40 in it. My 180 weighed in at 36 oz with muffler on the scale. The 220 at 42 oz is heavier. I had the problem that as built, with elevator serovs in the tail and the rudder by the wing, with a 2700mAh NiMh at the fire wall I still needed close to 20 oz to help the thing into the aft CG limit. I also dont have a hoby shop near by that carries the glow fuel I use. Most shops are about an hour away for me. The ZDZ helped me with weight and balance. My ZDZ was 56 oz with muffler. With everything installed and the rx battery back above the wing I am at the aft CG limit. The 220 should do better, most people I heard from on the 180 said it was marginal. My final all up weight with Saito and ZDZ were 13.3 pounds and 13.4 pounds respectively. So for the same weight and no balast I have more power and better fuel economy. Now I have heard from Chip Hyde. Here is what he said about the 180.
From Chip Hyde
"The CG of the CAPX was set super conservative so don't panic, its not going to require 14 oz of nose weight. What you need to do is to mount your battery on the fire wall or on the side of the motor box. Then I want you to add 3 ounces of shotgun shot or lead mixed with epoxy to the very front of the cowl just below the spinner ring.
Trust me this will be perfect and you will not have any problems with tip stalls on landing. The hardest thing will be getting use to how slow it will land and that is normally figured out after the second or third approach.
The final thing I want you to do is this. In your transmitter go to the programable mix functions and activate one of them like this
Throttle - Master
Elevator - Slave (Then push the link button on futaba)
Now at idle you need 2% down elevator. This is minimal and will be forgotten about after your first flight. This is the way you can establish a good power off glide slope and requires you to use a little bit of back pressure on the Elevator stick while on approach.
Chip "
Hope this helps.
