RE: Nitro with gasoline
agexpert,
Actually there are two. They've been around for years. In SportsCarClubofAmerica, guys have been cheating by running alcohol/nitro since SCCA began. They obviously did it for more power. Anyone could easily tell which drivers on the starting grid had done the deed as they were the ones holding the engines at high rpm before the start (because they weren't worried about cooking an engine that had the fan disconnected (another cheat)). And dragsters went to nitro for a reason. That's one.
The other benefit that can be quite helpful is on a very tightly enclosed, poorly cooled engine installation. Alcohol won't meltdown an engine like petrol can.
And the two combined is exactly why our hobby has such a preponderance of glowfuel motors and have had from the start. It was next to impossible to manufacture a gasoline hobby engine way back when. It was much simpler to create a 2cycle glow fuel one.
