It was next to impossible to manufacture a gasoline hobby engine way back when. It was much simpler to create a 2cycle glow fuel one.
Ummm..not exactly....apart from diesels all other model engines were spark ignition way back when. Glow ignition was found out accidentally on a spark ignition when they were trying out methanol to see if they could get more power for speed. The problem was that the engine kept on running after the spark was turned off
