Before a maiden flight, or after a crash, or anytime you change any electronics, or just randomly before you first flight of the day, range check your radio.
Make SURE your tx and rx batteries are charged.
Always check your controls visualy before EVERY takeoff, way to many people have crashed because of a reversed channel.
