Although the larger engines, such as the .26 and .30, are fun in a buggy because of all of the torque; there are better ways to attain speed and responsiveness. I say this from experience. I've gone through almost a dozen different engines and didn't get what I wanted, in terms of speed and responsiveness, until I went with a hot .21. I'm running a Collari XS380 and it runs better than any of the larger engines that I tried, including the VG30. It is much more responsive on the track, clearing doubles and triples with little effort, and the top end that I was looking for is there now.
With the way that technology has advanced, the old rule of there being "no replacement for displacement" no longer holds true. Well, it's not an absolute anyway. If you want to be quick and go fast, go with a nice .21. Even the Hyper .21 8 port pro runs pretty good.
