RE: When the wheels stop so does the Engine?!
The only way it can happen is the engine is not disengaging from the drivetrain.
In most cars removal of the spur gears gains access to the clutch bell. I find it much easier than taking the engine off, re-setting the mesh and applying loc-tite. Once this is done you can take apart the clutch. As mention, look for a broken clutch spring or damaged clutch shoes.
