The quickest way to check for compression is to remove the engine then hold it by the flywheel. Let the engine fall until it's pinch zone holds it from continuing to fall. Once this happens count to ten. If it can hold its self for over 10 seconds it still has good compression. Even if it does have good compression though it still may not run properly. The only way to find that out is to run it, and see.
