Default RE: Horizon Hobby Yak 54F, anyone fly yet?

JRoberts,

We went thru 5 Yaks.... you are right, they are frail.

The aileron roll rate... definitly not enough servo torque with one 15 in-oz servo. We went to dual HS-55 aileron servos... total transformation into a corkscrew from h3ll. Those surfaces are way too big for a single servo to drive.

CG: We hated the pull-pull hardware, and converted to CF pushrods. In doing that, we moved the Rudder Servo over to the side opposite the Elevator servo, and back about even with the ele servo. Pushed the CG back so that you had good balance with the battery in the forward compartment.

Durability... we did MANY things trying to make it better. CF sheeting on the control surface connection areas. CF flat strips along the fuse bottom, around the battery compartment and up around the motor mount. Packing Tape on fuse walls, better horns, pinned hinges all around, and many other minor improvements that all made it better, but all at the expense of added weight.
