The slipper allows a little slipping in the drive train. So you do not break as much. It would be very hard to tell if the mesh is correct from a picture as a lot has to do with the feel and gear lash. If you hold the spur and rock the CB you want just a very little back and forwarded movement with out the spur turning. All so you do not want it so tight that there is any bind when turning the CB or the spur. I use the paper method and it has all ways worked well for my. As most know that this is even more critical on a Savage and I have never stripped one on it after about 2 gallons.
