I cut mine at 1 1/2", but after 8 to 10 years of this, I have killed out all the Fescue, it just doesn't like to be cut that short. I'm in the south and the sun just burns it up. I'm in the process of seeding common Bermuda grass. This is just like golf coarse stuff, the shorter the better. I see you're in Ontario, so Bermuda is out of the question for you. Problem is, if you mow at like 2", it will be tuff for the smaller planes to take off.
