Default Goldberg Mirage upgrade

My son was given this plane awhile back and I am in the process of reclaiming it.I have read a few reviews and it seems to be a moderately powered trainer.Flying weight is around 53oz. with a Goldberg 550 7.2v can motor. The transmitter was AM,I picked up a Futaba T7CAP with manual and charger and an Electron6 receiver. While I am repairing the plane and getting familiar with the transmitter I have some questions.By the wat before flying Iam joining AMA and have been to a meeting at my local club to see about instruction and membership.
1.-I intend to repower but for now,can I use 8.4v or 9.6v battery packs?I think the original batteries were 600mah.I am looking at getting 3000+mah. There is a Duratrax DT-4 speed control installed, any info available or should I replace it?suggestions?

2.-4.8 or 6v for Rx.pack?

3.-What do you recommend for a motor, esc. upgrade?

4.-As this is going on I am going to build another wing with less dihedral and add ailerons.I want to mount 2 servos in the wing for eventual mixing, any servo suggestions?
5.-What prop should I use with the 550 motor?
I have an experienced friend to help,in fact I flew his Typhoon last week succesfully from take off to landing on a very gusty day.I am glad he suggested a simulator. Thanks for any help.-Kevin
