RE: Bit OT, but how long is the grass at your field normally?
My field was the "best field" in South FL but has turned into a real dust bowl. A dustbowl that snatches up even big planes. I swear if you dont take off in a few feet you hit a big patch of sugar sand and its over. That or some big divit. There are only a few patches of grass. I guess with all the dues we pay the higher ups never thought of a sprinkler system or felt one was needed. To top it off there is a size limit so 35% is fine but you want to fly the 40% and up forget about it. Certainly a cool field.
Man do I miss the Piedmont Aeromodelers up in NC. No gates, great grass, 200 acres, great people, and of course no size limit. To top it off full scale would come in and land in the field behind the runway. What a place. I think that and the Central Carolina field were my favorite.
Central Carolina field had short grass, but surrounded by tall CORN!! Try not to dead stick or you will be huckin. Runway had a kinda wierd drop off too but thats about it. I think I need to move back to NC.
