RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Well, I got to break in and fly the new UCD 46 today. The wind was pretty bad most of the afternoon, it was between 20 and 30 mpg with a few showers. I finally gave in and decided to do a break in run on the Saito 82. It was my first 4 stoke. I ran a tank through it at about 4400 RPM and then leaned the high end to get 9500 on a 14x4 APC prop. After adjusting the low end just a little to get a semi decent idle and transition, I took it up. It would cruise around at 1/4 throttle just fine. The low end was doggy, but when I got it to 1/2 throttle and it cleared its throat, it would hum. I flew two tanks after the break in tank, and the last one seemed like the motor was getting closer to stretching its legs. I could not believe it when I did a climbing inverted flat spin. It was an acident, I was up at about 3 mistakes high starting to do an upright flat spin when I flipped it inverted and watched it spin down that way instead. I started to feed in a little throttle to recover and it just started gaining altitude. I could not do that with my other UCD with an OS 46. The only thing I did not care for, and I dont remember my other plane doing, when I give it very much rudder the wings pitch the oposite way pretty bad. I cant get over the sound of the Saito. It was twice as loud as my 46, and the sound residence throught the plane was awsome. I just need to make a few minor adjustments before the next trip out and then I will run about 10 more tanks through and lean it out and get the cowl on.
