Good morning!...
Got the Big Do done last night! All up weight ready to fly with no fuel was 11lbs 15ozs. Gotta love it. I didn't do anything real special to keep the weight down. Just didn't use the wheel pants and did use common sense. I didn't reinforce with a bunch of glue but I did a little around the landing gear.
It's a very pretty bird, at least in my eyes. I can wait to do the maiden. Probably Wednesday. I think I can sneak out for a couple of hours then.
The 12Z is working perfectly and this will be it's maiden also. I'm gonna transfer all my planes to this radio and then sell the CAP 9C. This radio is fun. And will be exceptional when I get the other planes tied to it. But you can't really (at least easily) use the 9C as a back up because the channels are different. You can program the 12Z to change the channels to the same as the 9C but you will lose some of the "real time" speed you gain with the 12Z. The 12Z groups the channels together. 1&2 are the ailerons, 3&4 are the elevators, 5 is rudder 6 is throttle and 7&8 are the flaps. Anyways, once I prove up on the radio I'll transfer the other planes to it and change the channels in the receiver to the above and then it will make the 9C obsolete for me.
Anyways, I'm very pleased with the weight on the Giant. 12lbs should be good for the OS160. I still have to run a tank of fuel through the engine for break in and I'll do that tonight. I'll also take some pictures of the huge beast.
CG was the easiest to balance of any plane I've built. I installed everything where it looked good, except the battery, and then did the balance. The battery ended up being right on the wing tube. Basically right on the CG. That's a great place for the battery because there is practically no inertia created by the battery weight so it's a lot less likely to break loose in flight.
Plane and radio are ready. So am I. This week is gonna be fun.
Thanks
