RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I just flew the Realflight G3 UCD 60 and was greatly underwhelmed at the physics! I had wanted them to add our favorite plane since forever and I am glad I got to try it out on some one else's dime! I was thinking similar things CRASHBURN69, maybe the weight is an issue, but as I was flying it, I was thinking "is this really the way this plane flies?" ( I have the 46 not the 60) I felt like it was bottom heavy myself, (not tail heavy) it wouldn't hardly hover and it kept wanting to rotate to it's upright position like a plane with lot's of dihedral. I felt thet this was a fairly "point and fly" plane in reality. This was in my LHS so it may have been modified and I don't know what they did with wind settings.
I have always felt that Realflight was a fun program not without it's merits but it just never held up any where close to reality for me. The fact that you have no periphery of view renders it somewhat useless as a simulator. Maybe with goggle monitors (where you could turn your head and it would track your head movements) you could make it more realistic. It's like flying with only a computer screen to look at, no ability to turn your head or look behind/beside you. To land on the strip I have to use small fixed ground points to tell where I am in relationship to the strip. The best thing RF did for me was that has imbedded in me the "flying at myself" technique of control, I use the "stick towards low wing" technique. I used to always turn my back to the plane to re-orient myself but after a few weeks on G2 (the one I own) I was able to stop this bad habit! Now I can fly towards myself with second nature! No more doubt or panic!
I'm glad some one else wrote about this, I was just trying it yesterday and I was wondering similar things! This is an awesome thread! I am always looking forward to reading new posts! I have gained some invaluable data from these guys. My UCD 46 is nearing completion. I only await a better engine (the OS Mas .50 SX they suggested isn't cutting the mustard) and have a couple small mods left to do before I maiden with it. I was sure hoping to be flying it in Realflight, too. But now I don't think it would really help that much.
