Hey guys....im really tetter-tottering over buying the Ultrafly p-51 w/ the brushless motor for $119 OR buying the Hobby-lobby mustang for $119 just for the plane, seems a little pricy, but I know they have good quality items in the hobby too. Any suggestions??? How is the FRIO10 for the UF mustang? any suggestions would be great, thanks.
Joe
Finished my Ultrafly today and flew it twice... first flight was surprisingly good, second flight wasn't as good! Findings so far: The FRIO 10/10 motor got so hot during the second flight it left a smoke trail.. it is now junk. So two flights on the motor with the prop that is supplied and it's history. No wonder the advertising emphasized the cooling fan... think about it why did they even speak of the cooling fan unless the motor design has a heating problem?
Going to install a HiMax and be done with the problem. Also found out the landing gear are not very strong, on takeoff roll for the second flight the left retract gear broke.... not landing no problem there, on takeoff a little side load and that was it!
So now with two flights on the airplane I must switch out the motor.. and order a new retract gear unit.. not the best of recommendations. I'll report later how these repairs / changes work out.
The airplane does fly great.. much like other larger versions of the P-51 I have flown for years. Used about 15 degrees of flap on takeoff & landing, the flaps sure didn't hurt the slow flight ability of this little Mustang. This is no beginner's airplane..... today's density altitude here in Denver was above 8000 feet MSL. OAT was about 90 degrees.
