I recently emailed MRC because my 969 had a problem. Here is part of the reply:

"If you're interest, we have a trade-in program for the 969. If you send us
your entire charger (5 amp power supply and cables too) with a check or
money order for $35 then we can ship you out a brand new 977."

"Just put a note in the box requesting the trade-in with your name, address
and phone number."

Here's the address he gave to send the charger to:

So I may send in my 969 and a check (made out to "MRC" I assume??) to that address later this summer. Maybe it's not a free service anymore, or maybe this is a separate thing than the software upgrade. Either way, 35 bucks for a brand new 977 isn't half bad!
