Default Atributes of a good pattern aircraft

Hi,

My apologies if this question has been asked before....But what makes a good pattern aircraft?

I'm fairly new to pattern.

Can it be defined in terms of characteristics such as stability, controllability, performance (power to weight ratio), strength, and cost. And what about the ability to align wing incidence and other setup type features? What about repairability or the ability to buy replacement parts? A pleasing design with good covering and finish would be important as well.

For example how important is weight, if the first landing rips off the landing gear.

For stability.. What is the ideal here. Is it neutral stability? (longitudinal and lateral/directional axes) Or is it reduced cross coupling effects.

Quality which is a term used frequently on this forum? Does this relate to workmanship or is it something that relates to a broader aircraft attribute.

I hope this promotes some discussion.

Regards
