So far as getting young people into model aviation. I would go after home schoolers. They have an organization and network, so can be found. Those parents are dedicated to doing for their kids, their kids do not have the rigidly organized schedule of extra-curricular activities, and the parents are on the look out for good learning and socialization experiences.
As a home school grad, I've been actively doing that.
Kiss the LiPo? Is that one of them Extreme Sports the slackers are into these days? Like the sports Kick the Bear or Cross Freeway Sprint? Or a Euro-Strongman exhibition: Who can hold a Shorted LiPo the longest.... well, that one is 90% mental prowess.

just to improve upon the idea a little, we should have CL combat raging while the RC foamies try to create more havoc. Kindda like a Le Mans event. Have a winner for the longest lasting CL plane and a winner for the RC plane that took the most hits averaged with the endurance of the flight. What fun!
