Todays' situation is much different and for a variety of reasons trying to avtively recruit the youngsters to the AMA is a waste of time.
I think the truth is that most people know of model aviation and most people aren't impressed enough with it to get into it.

I would disagree that model aviation is universally known. I've simply run into too many people who have had no idea it exists.
