RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
Scale Rules,
The MTW 75 will fit in O.k, even if it is a bit of a squeeze and doesn't look like it will fit at first.
The cannister almost totally fills the space where the undercarriage plate crosses the tunnel.
I did think that there might not be enough airflow going past the pipe for cooling, but it all works great in practice.
I agree that looking at all those pages is a pain. If you need any details on retaining the pipe let me know.
My only problem with the plane is that the ailerons were slightly warped and still are, as even though I have twised them straight, the twists keep coming back.
My engine firewall is not the best quality and after about 10 flights needs cutting out and a harder wood one needs to be fitted ( big pain now that the plane is all finished). I tightened up the bolts to the rear of the standoffs with large washers behind the boltlheads however the firewall is that soft that the standoffs pull into the firewall during tightening up. Then engine running causing the engine to start to come loose. Tighten the bolts a bit more and the standoffs start to be pulled into the firwall. Big bad viscious circle, which will only end when the standoff and washer are touching. Please dont email to tell me that I have been over tightening the bolts as that is not the case.
Advise is to check your firwall and change it if the quality is suspect.
My lower cowl mounting block pulled out second flight, no glue appeared to be on it!
Still, does fly very, very, well.
