RE: choosing a plane
If you like warbirds go with the PTS. I bought one and have flow it 9 times and will solo either tomorrow or Monday. The PTS with all the trainer stuff on flies as easy if not easier then any high wing trainer I have seen at our field. I now also have an 11x6 master airscrew prop and the only traner elements remaining are the droops on the leading edges of the wings. This is also cost effective. The plane comes RTF for 399. The only drawback to the PTS that I have seen is that when some instructors see it, they do not think it is a good trainer because of the low wing design. I had a problem with this but I just kept going to the field and talking with people and found some good instructors. I also have a Hangar 9 Corsair that many people told me was an impossible plane to fly but this is untrue because the plane so far (knock on wood) has performed wonderful. However, I would not suggest any normal warbird for a first plane. The cost I have into the Corsair is about 1000 dollars. Do not be affraid to get the PTS, it flies very slow and stable just make sure the instructors at your club are not abrasive to the idea of a low wing trainer. If you find that they are, it may be better for you to get a traditional high wing trainer so you will not have a hard time getting someone to take you up. Either way you go there are good RTF planes out there from 299 to 400 that will get you started. Hope this helps and good luck getting in the air.
