In big gun could I use actual torpedos?
It depends on the club. Some allow them, others (presumably) don't. Most that do allow them allow simulations using 1/4" ball bearings fired at a short range & require longer times between shots.

What are torpedos used for?
Like any other projectile weapon, they're used for punching holes in the sides of the enemy's ships!
