Did you ever find out what was causing your problems? I recently had a very similar situation with a SuperTigre engine that was caused by a lack of backpressure from the muffler. I crimped one of the exhaust tubes on my Pitts muffler and that problem was fixed...I have since found other problems, but that's a different story.
