The YS110 is the "best in class" if you can get them to run. After my first one or two I finally figured out that the regulator is almost always the problem. I ended up opening all of them to 3 turns and that helped a great deal. They are funny engines. They are difficult to tune (I don't care what anybody says) but when you get them right they are the most reliable. (I don't care what anybody says) And when it comes to performance they make the most power of anything in class. The higher in elevation you are the more difference there is. That is because of the supercharger. It doesn't lose as much horsepower as the air pressure gets less, hence more power at higher elevations.
I'm fond of saying, "Ahhh.....YS. You love 'em till you don't."
If you wanted to try one I wouldn't be afraid. Now that I've got them figured out they are my engine of preference. They make these 90 size airplanes sooooooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeet to fly. The power is truly amazing. And with the pump you can put the fuel tank on the CG which keeps it flying the same as you use fuel. Amazing little engines.
Oh, I have a DA 50 too. And a EVO 45. I'm building a gas plane as we speak. (Great Planes CAP 232) But I'm stalled on it. I think I"m gonna stay with glow. As I look at it the wing loading is always higher on the bigger planes. With my UCD I'm about 15 with the gas plane I'm gonna be about 27. That's a big difference. I gotta believe it will not fly as light as the UCD. (I don't care what anybody says.)
Thanks
